Group, Since the team up of the RootsWeb boards and those sponsored by Ancestry.com I have been totally confused by just where they are or even how to use them. This morning I have spent some time trying to figure out how to bring up what you want and how to use them and I will share what I have found out about these boards. This is not all inclusive but is just what I have been able to determine so far. I believe you do now have to be a registered user. It is still free to those who wish to use the boards but usage does require a member name and password. Once you have become a registered member you are given the opportunity to login each time by clicking on your user name and if you click ON save my password this login process is much easier. The basis address that will fit into an E-mail for a quick link is: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam from this point you are given these options: Canada Mexico United States Click on the words United States New board comes up with these options: Special States Click on the word States New board comes up with 50 states Click on the word Kentucky New board comes up but this one is slightly different. Here you are given an option of the basic file of the counties or a quick link to other KY files. For example you will find a link to Sandi Gorin's Kentucky Biographies, Sandi Gorin's Kentucky Research Tips, Sellers' Western Kentucky Obituaries and others. Click Counties and a new board comes up with all the KY counties, Here click on whatever County you would like to research in and that County will come up. When the county comes up this is the spot where it is best to add that County to your favorities or bookmark it. If you do this on your computer you can quick link back to it directly. Ancestry.com also gives you this option of saving your favorities within the login of Ancestry.com. Now this is an important part of these County boards. You will see the words: View Message Type with a dropdown menu arrow. Click on the down arrow and you are given these options: All Bible Biography Birth Cemetery Census Death Deed Immigration Lookup Marriage Military Obituary Pension Queries Will This is important because here you select what type of board you wish to see displayed! You can not bookmark these catagories of the county and if you do not change this for each county you visit you will get the same board type each place you visit. If you have it set to Wills you will only get Wills for each county you visit. If you have it set to All you will get All of what was the most recently posted messages and you may have to go through a lot of obits or whatever to find basic queries or whatever you are looking for. This is also important because this was a plus feature. Places to add more data: such as Marriages, Births, LookUp Request and Offers etc. Also on the County Message Board you will find a circle spot with the words All Boards or Caldwell Board, if you click on Caldwell Board you will get a different type format of Caldwell Messages and I haven't figured out what these are....except older ones?? You will also find a place to post a new message, do an advanced search or visit the next page of whatever message type you have selected. Ken is still adding obituaries for Caldwell and Lyon and much other information in other counties is still being added also. It has become confusion during this merger of listings, but many people are still working hard to put information out there. I know some of you are well ahead of me on how to use these boards and I hope you will share with the group any helpful tips you may have as some of it is most confusing. Vicki
