What makes the McGregor clan geneaology research so terribly difficult and confusing, in addition to its much prior McGregor name history in early Scotland, is the fact that, as was the pretty norm in those days, common and same first names was the extensive practice. As I said, my history of the clan extends back to the 1700s but same first names, splinter descents of the caln etc., make it especially difficult to stay on the right track and keep properly oriented. Also, in several cases, husband and wife are both of the McGregor descent. That is the situation in my case as well. My maternal grandmother was a McGregor and somewhere way back yonder, my father blended out of the clan. The dossier that I have contains some 120 book size pages of reasonably fine print and a second book of several pages of index to it so you can see how, considering the name's commonalty and vastness thereof, the sometimes confusion that can result. However, with several abounding shirttail offshoots, I have filtered out the following re the questions in your McGregor query. Hope it is of some help and if more elaboration or specifics re others of the clan are desired, I will be glad to attempt to filter it out of this, sometimes muddled, but I believe accurate, history: James D., born Nov. 30, 1843, died Apr. 16, 1857. Buried in McGregor Cemetery, 6th child of Dison McGregor(1812) & Margaret McGregor (M.N. unknown) 1816. William Dison, born May 10, 1846, died April 23, 1925. Seventh child of Dison McGregor (1812) & Margaret Goodacre Mcgregor (buried Cedar Hill). Married October 15, 1863 to Elizabeth Purdy, born December 1, 1844, died July 15, 1926. (He was an Old Primitive Baptist Preacher and he, Elizabeth Shadrach and Artenecy, Olive Townzen (sic) McGregor were the founder of the Margaret Hills Church in 1877. Just minutes from lick Creek Church). Children: Harvey Johnson, Josephine, Victoria, Mary Jane, California (aka known as Callie), Robert lee, William Jones, Clifton Pratt & Ada Bell who died in infancy. Harvey Johnson, born 1865, Died December 30, 1940,(buried Cedar Hill), married ---------Young?
