    1. Re: marriage of Z T Williamson and Flavie Throckmorton
    2. Peggy, a few weeks ago we exchanged notes concerning the marriage of Zack Williamson. Arwana Kyle's marriage book listed his bride as Flavie Calvert, but I told you that I believed this to be a mistake. On a recent trip to Princeton, KY, I examined the records and can say positively that Z. T. Williamson's wife was Flavie Throckmorten. The marriage is recorded in Marriage Bonds book 23, page 473, with the marriage being performed 22 Dec 1899. There is a note from Flavie Throckmorten authorizing the clerk to issue the license along with another note from W. G. Throckmorten stating the she is over age 21. The name Calvert does not appear in these records and I have no idea how the mistake occurred. By the way, I have seen the Throckmorten spelled incorrectly in the obiturary of one of Zack and Flavie's daughters as "Throgmorten." Bye, Richard Sheridan

    3. I am descended from Andrew Dunn, son of Joseph Dunn. Andrew married Penina Freeman, whose father was Michael Washington Freeman. I show he had 4 daughters and one son Michael Washington Freeman Jr. Michael married Eliza Bigham. Aaron Freeman was a brother of Michael Washington Freeman Sr. His wife was Judith Fleetwood. I have a Sara Freeman who was born 2/25/1804 who married James H Bigham. I do not show a Dudley C in my database. 2. Another thought on movement from VA/NC/TN to the Caldwell Co area of KY. If you follow the Cumberland River it starts in eastern TN/KY near theNC/VA borders. I saw an article once that said that the Wilderness Rd followed I believe what is now hwy 25 in eastern KY- or roughly close to where it is now from Cumberland Gap up toward Corbin, KY. It was easy for our ancestors to hop on the Cumberland River and float "down" stream. Downstream being at first heading SE towards Nashville, and then NW through what is now the land between the lakes area and emptying out into the Ohio River near Paducah. Eddyville in Caldwell Co is on the north side of the Cumberland and close to where my NC Rev War ancestor ended up. Just another thought......( and my Mam-ma told me that was how her Mam-ma told her they did it!) Teri

    1. Migrations
    2. I too, wondered why my folks went from Virginia to Tenn. and then took rafts up the Cumberland to Ky and some moving on further West. There was an excellent article in ANCESTRY magazine in July of last year that was called WESTWARD MOVEMENT,THE KENTUCKY MICROCOSM. It was written by Dr. Roseann Reinemuth Hogan. In short it explained: The environment and economic conditions in VA,N.C. and PA. made it ripe for migration. It also pointed out that most of the immigrants had strong religious beliefs and consequently there were conflicts and that was another reason to "find their own place". Plus a great number of these men had fought in the Rev. War and were given lands in the Wilderness State.I can only cite my own family in this, but even tho there was a great deal of land in the family, some was sold due to not managing it correctly and a great deal was lost due to the War of Yankee Aggression. Which brings up another point. One of my ggrandfathers moved to KY. from TN. becaus! e he was a Southern sympathizer and the majority of the family were for the Union. And then there was, in one instance, a move on to Texas as the schism was so deep, it was never healed. If you can find this article I think you will find it very informative. Martha

    3. MESSAGE FROM THE ROOTSWEB HOME OFFICE, by Jake Gehring, Executive Producer, RootsWeb.com Wow, what a week it has been. The messages have really been flying. In an effort to improve communication from RootsWeb to you (and vice versa), I will be sending out a message every so often that addresses current issues on the RootsWeb site. The RootsWeb staff has received a lot of questions since the merger of Ancestry.com and RootsWeb.com last summer, and I think there's a general need for our users to have regular information on RootsWeb's efforts to provide valuable services to the genealogical community. I also want to make a few comments about our new message boards system, which was launched last week. We're grateful for the excellent feedback many of you have provided. The feedback has been generally positive when addressing the value of the combined datasets and the increased search functionality. However, I also recognize that any significant change requires some getting used to and may create some temporary inconvenience and frustration. I would like to address some of the concerns we've heard from you, the users. By popular request, we will shortly add the ability for users to filter by message category within a message board (for queries, obituaries, deeds, etc.). For the benefit of the message board administrators, we are extending the board re-adoption deadline from 15 July to 23 July. There is some confusion about RootsWeb's position regarding the ownership of messages posted on the boards. Let me clarify by excerpting from the Acceptable Use Policy, which reads, "When you post messages to mailing lists, message boards, and other facilities at RootsWeb, those posts remain your property under copyright law." The same is true for those using the message boards at Ancestry.com. In short, if you posted it, you own it. As far as the message boards or any other RootsWeb features are concerned, if you're not happy, we're not happy. Please continue to give us your comments and concerns at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi In the meanwhile, experiment with the newly merged message boards. You might discover some previously buried information or make an invaluable connection that will enable you to leap over a proverbial genealogical brick wall problem that you had almost given up on solving.
