Hi Listers Permission was granted to pass this on to the list, Jess will be glad to share what McGregor info he has. Ken. G. ************ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 23:38:41 EST From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Young's & other families listed Ken: I have a pretty comprehensive dossier of the McGregor Clan, going at least back to the late 1700s when William McGregor (my GGGF, wife's name unknown) moved to Hopkins County sometime between 1813 & 1818. What makes the McGregor clan geneaology research so terribly difficult and confusing, in addition to its much prior McGregor name history in early Scotland, is the fact that, as was the pretty norm in those days, common and same first names was the extensive practice. As I said, my history of the clan extends back to the 1700s but same first names, splinter descents of the caln etc., make it especially difficult to stay on the right track and keep properly oriented. Also, in several cases, husband and wife are both of the McGregor descent. That is the situation in my case as well. My maternal grandmother was a McGregor and somewhere way back yonder, my father blended out of the clan. The dossier that I have contains some 120 book size pages of reasonably fine print and a second book of several pages of index to it so you can see how, considering the name's commonalty and vastness thereof, the sometimes confusion that can result. However, with several abounding shirttail offshoots, I have filtered out the following re the questions in your McGregor query. Hope it is of some help and if more elaboration or specifics re others of the clan are desired, I will be glad to attempt to filter it out of this, sometimes muddled, but I believe accurate, history: James D., born Nov. 30, 1843, died Apr. 16, 1857. Buried in McGregor Cemetery, 6th child of Dison McGregor(1812) & Margaret McGregor (M.N. unknown) 1816. William Dison, born May 10, 1846, died April 23, 1925. Seventh child of Dison McGregor (1812) & Margaret Goodacre Mcgregor (buried Cedar Hill). Married October 15, 1863 to Elizabeth Purdy, born December 1, 1844, died July 15, 1926. (He was an Old Primitive Baptist Preacher and he, Elizabeth Shadrach and Artenecy, Olive Townzen (sic) McGregor were the founder of the Margaret Hills Church in 1877. Just minutes from lick Creek Church). Children: Harvey Johnson, Josephine, Victoria, Mary Jane, California (aka known as Callie), Robert lee, William Jones, Clifton Pratt & Ada Bell who died in infancy. James Deboe is living in Williams Mill, Caldwell Co. Kentucky in 1880. He is a 22 year old laborer living in the J.R. Boid household. A near neighbor is M.F. Deboe and two children, S.F. and J.F. born born in Kentucky. James Deboe married Fannie Bright December 22, 1881 in Caldwell County. Evidently James/Jim and Fannie divorced about 1886/1888. In the 1900 Pulaski County, Arkansas census, Henry Deboe, born May 1888, is living in the John Crow household with his Mother Fannie and John Crow as a stepson. Any Deboe information would be appreciated. I am trying to find a divorce record for James and Fannie Deboe, and trying to find what happened to their son Henry. Thank you.
Divorce records are found among Circuit Court records. Circuit Court records are found as loose bundles and order books in the old records room of Circuit Court, across the street from the county courthouse. It can be a long search to locate the bundle you need as the bundles are not necessarily arranged in chronological order. Good luck. As Paul Harvey would say "and now for the rest of the story" ************** MOTHER TO CLAIM ESTATE OF SON Jacksonville Fla. January 29, 1930 Plans for claiming an estate, valued at upwards of $100,000, which was left at the death in Princeton Kentucky, of her aged son, whom she had not seen since he was an infant, were being made today by Mrs. Frank Hill, a 85 year-old widow at Doctors Inlet, near here. Mrs. Hill, who lives with her two daughters, was notified that her son by her first marriage, R. E. Butler, wealthy Princeton merchant, died recently, leaving no direct heirs and no will. She formerly was Mrs. Thomas M. Butler, wife of a wealthy landowner and a tobacco grower who now is dead. J. W. Hill, a son by her second marriage, lives in Jacksonville. He went to Doctors Inlet today to help his mother lay plans for claiming the state. Mrs. Hill and her first husband were separated when their son was an infant. Both remarried later and lost sight of each other, the father retaining custody of the baby. \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo----McGillekehr ********************************************************************** *****Your kygenweb homepages are***** CALDWELL http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/caldwell.html LYON http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/lyon.html TRIGG http://www.kyseeker.com/trigg/index.html **********************************************************************

Mr. Butler had not been in the best of health for several months and the 12th of this month the ailment from which he suffered became suddenly acute and since that time he had been confined to his bed. Death came yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, at 2:05 o'clock, bringing merciful surcease from the suffering he had so patiently borne. The deceased had been an active figure in the financial life of Princeton for many years, having been interested in the dry goods trade here since his early manhood. He was connected with the Powell and Henry establishment, which was afterward known as the Henry and Butler Dry Goods Store. For some years he was engaged in the manufacturer of men's hats and caps, with establishments in Louisville and St. Louis. Upon returning to this place to reside he purchased of the late W. P. Henry, the business he was operating at the time of his demise Mr. Butler was vice-president of the First National Bank, and chairman of the City Board of education. His was the largest individual gift made toward the handsome new high school building, which was named in his honor, and which will stand as a worthy monument to perpetuate his memory. During the later years of his life the interests of the children of this city had held paramount place in his affections, having striven in his use against the vicissitudes of life, his heart went out, in his later years to those who are preparing themselves for the struggle for existence. Quite and retiring in manner, he with his unostentatious way, most valued for its sterling qualities of those who knew him best, his personal friends and business associates. Mr. Butler was born in the Salem section of Crittenden County, October 10, 1865, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Butler. He received his education in the Fredonia schools, and at McMinnville and Lebanon Universities in Tennessee. He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, and was an elder of that congregation at the time of his death. In 1914 he was married to Miss Naomi Butler, a lovely young woman of Hopkinsville, who died two years later. Three half sisters, two of Christian County and one of Kansas, are the near surviving relatives, beside several nieces and nephews. The remains were conveyed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. would Hopkinsville Street, Wednesday afternoon, and removed to the auditorium of the R. E. Butler High School Thursday morning. School was dismissed and the pupils at the East Side Grade building marched in a body to join those at Butler High School, where the remains laid in state. The impressive funeral service was conducted by his pastor, Reverend E. E. Diggs, D. D., of the Central Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. P. H. Davis, of Ogden Memorial Church, South, and Rev. D. D.Dugan of the Christian church. Young men who were members of the senior class were pallbearers. In the past few years Mr. Butler had opened his heart to Mark Tabor, a young lad of this community, who had become to him, as a beloved son, and to him and the relatives we extend sincere condolences. In the last days of his illness, at his urgent request, he was moved from his apartment over the Griffin and Watkins studio, to the home of Mrs. Lucy Griffin, next door, where Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Lillie Murphy bestowed upon him the most tender care in his last hours. ***** **********************************************************************

Free lookups of Revolution War Patriots I received this in my mail from another list and thought I would share this fine opportunity. Dear All: Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: www.rootsweb.com message boards topics organizations and societies DAR Or if you want the easy way :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec? htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates In the body of the message put the information regarding the person, Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup For organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen DAR board admin. BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards that each of you are involved in. Hi Listers, To respond to those on the Caldwell List that have asked about me re-posting queries to the Caldwell list that have been posted to the Ancestry.com Caldwell Message Board. When the old usgenweb query boards, and the obit boards, hosted by Rootsweb, were linked to the Caldwell List the queries were automatically forwarded (gatewayed) to the Caldwell List, but not the obits. The different boards could be controlled (gatewayed) individually. Rootsweb also hosted the old obituary board and to keep every one on the list from receiving to their mailboxes a lot of obits daily the gateway to the obits were closed. The obits were not forwarded to the Caldwell List, but could be read on the OBIT board on Rootsweb. When Ancestry.com took over the message boards in June, 2001, from ROOTSWEB, they combined all the old boards to one and called it the Caldwell Message Board. This left only one gateway to all messages, obits, queries, etc. This gateway could either be open or closed.... To keep everyone's mailbox from being loaded down daily with obits I was posting, I asked Vicki Stewart, the List Administrator, to close the gateway from the message board... I agreed to keep a check on the queries and post the ones from the Caldwell/Lyon Message Boards to the Caldwell/Lyon Lists along with the ADDRESS of the person that needed to be responded to. It would be informative if anyone responding would include a carbon copy to the Caldwell/Lyon List so everyone else could benefit. Sorry to be so long-winded in my explanation, but the takeover of Rootsweb by Ancestry.com has caused lots of problems and quite a few letters of explanation have had to be made to individuals. Hopefully this explains why I have been re-posting queries to the Caldwell List. >From This Weeks Rootsweb Review...... HUMOR: ADVICE TO A 1912 BRIDE Thanks to Earl C. ("Cal") Padgett, Jr.<[email protected]> Years ago a Kentucky grandmother gave a bride the following recipe for washing clothes 1. Bilt fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water. 2. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert. 3. Shave one hole cake of lie soap in bilin water. 4. Sort things, make 3 piles. 1 pile white, 1 pile colored, 1 pile work britches and rags. 5. To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with bilin water. 6. Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard, and then bile. Rub colored, don't bile, just rinch and starch. 7. Take things out of kettle with broomstick handle, then rinch, and starch. 8. Hang old rags on fence. 9. Spread tea towels on grass. 10. Pore rinch water in flower bed. 11. Scrub porch with hot soapy water. 12. Turn tubs upside down. 13. Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings. Hang this above your automatic washer, and when things look bleak, read it again, and count your blessings! ********************** \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo----McGillekehr ********************************************************************** *****Your kygenweb homepages are***** CALDWELL http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/caldwell.html LYON http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/lyon.html TRIGG http://www.kyseeker.com/trigg/index.html **********************************************************************
