Does anyone know either the date of death or the cause of death of C.H. Webb and William Johnson? These two men were alive in 1841 when they were named executors of the will of William Mitchusson in Caldwell Co, KY. I have been told that one of these two men was killed over the settlement of this will and am trying to learn whether or not that information is correct and -- if so -- which of the two it might have been. While the will was probated in Caldwell County, William Mitchusson owned land on the border of Caldwell and Christian Counties, so these friends of his might have lived in either county at that time. I'll greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me. Regards, Betty Ravenholt

Hi Listers. Posted this obit today to the Caldwell Message board.. thought it might interest some.. Ken G. ********************************************************************** Bowling Green Kentucky February 17th 1915 Colonel Murray Is Murdered-Founder Of Guthrie, Ky.,Dead In New Mexico Bowling Green, Ky. February 17-- Mesdames Joe D. Smith and Thomas W. Stone received a message yesterday stating that their brother-in-law, Colonel S R Murray, who fought in the Southern army and founded Guthrie, Ky, was killed at his home at Rangel Lake, New Mexico, where he had been spending several months for his health. His body was found in a chair with his throat cut and a knife on the floor by his side. The person or persons, after committing the crime, robbed Colonel Murray of a large sum of money. He was a Mason and a Masons Pin was found on his coat. His children were notified of the crime and they came to Midland, New Mexico by rail and rode over two hundred miles in an automobile to Rangel Lake. He was born in Michigan and while attending college ran away and joined the Southern army. He was 78 years old and married Miss Tommie Hines, of this city, who died 20 years ago. He owned what is now Dawson Springs where he conducted a large sawmill. He is survived by two daughters and one son. Colonel Murray was a former Caldwell Countian, living at the Humphries place three miles south of the city. ************* \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo----McGillekehr ********************************************************************** *****Your kygenweb homepages are***** CALDWELL http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/caldwell.html LYON http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/lyon.html TRIGG http://www.kyseeker.com/trigg/index.html **********************************************************************
Morse Reunion / DAR Ceremony On Saturday, April 27, 2002 the descendants of Ebenezer and Agness (Spiller)Morse met at the Caldwell County Ambulance Community room, for a reunion, hosted by Frank & Rose Ann (Beckner) Morse. A program was presented by Colleen Norman and Debbie McCardle on the life of Eb and Agness and their children, with many new facts about the family found during their research the past year. Each family member received a copy of a report of Colleen & Debbie's research. Then a break for lunch and a time to visit. We all had a chance to check out or buy books from various authors. Brenda Joyce Jerome, who has several Caldwell County books such as Caldwell County Vital Statistics Births 1852- 1910 and Caldwell County, Kentucky Vital Statistics Deaths and many others including her Western Kentucky Journal which is always filled with new things. Gregory Watson was there, he has two books on cemeteries in Caldwell, also several family histories, including his latest offering on the Jacob Sigler Family. Then group pictures were made and off we went to the cemetery. The DAR ceremony was presented by the Caldwell County Chapter and was also attended by some state DAR members. The ceremony was very moving and a bronze plaque was unvieled recognizing Ebenezer's service during the American Revolution. We were all once again amazed at the difference one man can make when he decides to do something. Frank has cleared and cleaned the little cemetery, found and uncovered stones and repaired and set them up right. When you hear of so many cemeteries being destroyed, it's great to see young people like Frank and Rose Morse take this much interest in their/our heritage. Everyone seemed in favor of another reunion next year. Kentucky line which are of no value to me. However, they be helpful to another researcher. If you send me your home mailing address I will be glad to send the copy to you. They are: M. J. Ebenezer Morse b. 9 Dec. 1744 d. 23 June 1818 Crider, Caldwell Co., Ky. married Agnes Spiller b. ca. 1745 d. 14 Jan. 1819 Crider, Caldwell Co., Ky. Ebenezer Morse was a Patriot in the American Revolution, furnishing arms and supplies for the fight against the British. He was on the 1800 Spartinburg, SC. census and in 1809 he was on the Caldwell Co., Ky. tax lists. Ebenezer, Agnes and many of their children were some of the earliest settlers of Caldwell Co., Ky. On Saturday April 27, 2001 there will be a reunion of the descendants of Ebenezer and Agnes (Spiller) Morse at 10:45 at the Caldwell Ambulance Community Room. Highway 91 North /Highway 139 North across from the Stratton Inn in Princeton. 11:00- lunch and snacks 1:15 - leave to go to Ebenezer's old home place, this is where the cemetery is located. 2:00 - DAR ceremony, to honor his Revolutionary War service. Directions to the cemetery from Princeton: travel on 91 North/139 North toward Fredonia. It is approximately 7 1/2 miles from the Community Room to Crider. Turn right on Good Springs Road,(all the turns will be well marked), travel 7/10ths of a mile, turn right on Grey Road, travel 1 mile to driveway on right side of road, turn right on driveway and follow the road. It's about 4/10 mile to the cemetery. There will be several Morse researchers to help you trace your roots. If you have Caldwell Co./Morse connections they probably go back to Ebenezer and Agness. All are encouraged to bring any old bibles, pictures, records or family trees. Frank Morse of Princeton is the person who has organized this event A couple of years ago, he bought the property mainly because of the little cemetery that was on it. After buying the property, he started working on restoring the cemetery and finding many buried headstones, he has accomplished a great deal on this project. The public is invited to the cermony at the Craig (Eb Morse) Cemetery. ******** The Princeton Banner Princeton Ky October 6, 1891 An article from the Banner states, " 1833 as the date the First Christian Church, Princeton Kentucky, was organized, but in 1834 almost all the members died in a cholera epidemic. Charles, First, let me correct the information which I gave you. James Stephenson was is the Donelson area. There is a Donaldson, too. Sorry! This refers to the water area the property was located by. Second, I will take a stab at this, but others on the list may have more knowledge on this than I do. I believe this may have been an area off of the Cumberland River, like a creek or river that ran down toward Fort Donelson in TN. Or maybe the water course ran up from there into Caldwell County. The area would today be located in Trigg County but may be under Lake Barkley. ?? You may find this map helpful in seeing the area: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcivilw/battles/donmap2.htm The map is in relationship to the Civil War period but does show that there were many creeks and branches in the area, unfortunately, the names of most of them are not given. You may also want to check out the Trigg County US Gen Web site: http://www.kyseeker.com/trigg/index.html Betty's got all kinds of history gems over there. That's my best guess, if anyone else can add to this or offer better help, please do. Vicki

Hi Listers, Vickie brought to my attention, the Cholera article had a date of June 31, 1851..Bad Date... Ok, so, .....30 days has Sept., JUNE, July & November, all the rest have 31, except Feb... WE all learned this in the 2nd grade.. But the article has a date that looks like June 31, 1851..this is an EXTRA edition, one sheet, and as the article says, they were over burdened and overworked and confused....the paper is old, has smudges and quite possibly the correct date is June 30, 1851.. Sorry, if I confused everyone...
