    3. HUMOR: Old Age Can Kill You ----------------------------------- Thanks to: Marilyn <[email protected]> who writes: I've been transcribing county death schedules from New Brunswick, and discovered that: Sarah died in 1891, she was a 67-year-old housekeeper, and cause of death was "worn out," length of illness, 2 months. Then there's Margaret, she died in 1888, she was 92 years old, cause of death "old age," length of illness, "1 week" Phoebe, on the other hand, was only 88 when she died in 1888. She too, died of "old age," but she had it "several years." William died in 1888, at 84, of "old age," but he had it "not long." Mrs. Seeley, age 91, died in 1888 of old age, she only had it "one day." ************** Previously published in RootsWeb Review: Vol. 5, No. 31, 31 July 2002 ************** ********************************************************************** \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo----McGillekehr ********************************************************************** *****Your kygenweb homepages are***** CALDWELL http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/caldwell.html LYON http://home.hiwaay.net/~woliver/lyon.html TRIGG http://www.kyseeker.com/trigg/index.html **********************************************************************

    1. Obituaries/Marriage declarations
    2. I just spent a few days in the basement of the Coon Library in Princeton and copied many miscellaneous obituaries and few pages of a marriage book and census records. What information I have, I will be sending along later this week. Please do not email with specific requests. I will list the surnames contained within whatever document I am sharing in the subject line. Hope I can help some of you out there with your research. HES There are no mistakes. 1. Re: census data
    2. Hi Kerry, Nice to hear from you again. I will try and answer your questions. Garland Childress is son of Walter "Pete" Childress and Alice Jones, Louis Simpson Childress and Mary Belle Holston, Thomas M. Childress and Mary E. Carter, John Wesley Childress and Mary Hare, and Philip Childress and Mary Green, He does not know who the parents of Philip are. He is stuck there just like we are with William Benedict Childress. Benedict is the grandson of Jeremiah but we do not know whose his parents are. I think where you listed William Sr. you should have listed William Benedict. Benedict and Nancy Jane Burton are the parents of William Marion Childress Sr. who is the father of James Anderson Childress, and we are pretty sure that he is the father of Richard 1810, Thomas 1814, John??, Nancy Jane 1821, James Anderson 1823, Mary Ann1825,William Jr. 1827, and Sarah Elizabeth 1830. My line is Benedict, Wm. Sr., Wm.Jr. James Elbert, Mary Edna who married Shellie White and then me. I have a letter that Mary Hargrove wrote me in 1982 that helped me to understand James Andersons family a bit better. She was the granddaughter of James Anderson, and the great granddaughter of William St. She also lists the 7 children of James Anderson, and then she lists the 6 children of her mother who married Thomas Vaughn and she says that Mary or Mollie married Barney Davis which is your line. I don't think I knew the Princeton Fergusons, the ones I knew were in the Harmony church area out in the country. I remember a Buss and Dorothy Ferguson, and one of them had a son named Tom. I knew lots of Pruetts but it has been a long time so I am not sure. What I think would be a good idea would be for you and I to get together in the winter and compare our notes. We spend 7 months of the year in Fort Pierce, Fl. and the other 5 here in Richmond, Ky. I am not sure where your Florida home is but surely we can plan to meet sometime. We are in Fl. from first of Nov. until the first of June. Fort Pierce is on the East coast, about 100 miles from Miami. Sincerely, Dot

    2. Dot, sorry I have been so long responding. Things are back to normal. Based on your last note, you mentioned you were meeting with Garland Childress. I heard his name from my family. Who was his father and grandfather? I have several newspaper articles from my grandmother's scrapbook on the CHILDRESS. Here is how I descend. William Sr. CHILDRESS William Childress James Anderson CHildress m. Elizabeth P. Carney Mary Jane CHildress m. Barney Davis Ellie Davis m. Gross Ferguson Margaret Ferguson m. John McGurk Kerry McGurk m. Tom Howard Since you are from Caldwell Co. I am sure you know many people. Tom Pruett, a cousin. Any of the Ferguson;s? My Uncle Jack and Bertha Davis lived in town. Both gone now. I use to go back once a year. My grandparents had a farm in Fredonia, both born in Princeton, my mother also. I would be happy to send you info, not sure how to do that with the family tree program but I could type or send thru the mail. Let me know. I would like a group sheet in James E. Childress, WIlliam, WIlliam Sr. and what you have ascending. I ownly have what Mary Ann had sent me, but i did not believe it was correct because I ran across her material in The Caldwell COunty History book and info was contradictory. A side note. I live in Brighton, MI near Ann Arbor 6 mos. and Bonita Springs, FL 6 mos. Kerry

    1. Re: census data
    2. Hi Kerry, Last year I went to Salt Lake City and one of my main goals was to find the book by James Anderson Childress, I had tried to get it through interlibrary loan and had failed. I did find his book at Salt Lake and spent the first day there reading it. I was so disappointed that he did not talk about his ancestors, I was so hoping that he would mention Benedict Childress the father of his father William Marion Sr. who is my great great grandfather, but he did not. Your James Anderson would be the brother of my great grandfather William Jr. William Jr. is the father of my grandfather James Elbert Childress. I have one folder on Sarah Elmit but know very little about the other children of James Anderson. I would like to have the information that you have and I will gladly share any that I have. Also I would like to know which of the branches of James Anderson's children that you belong to. My line goes like this: Dorothy Hester White Harkins, Mary Edna Childress, James Elbert, William Jr., Wm. Sr. Benedict, and this is where the gap is. We know Benedict was the grandson of Jeremiah Childress and Martha McGowan but do not know who his parents were. Some of the information that Mary Ann did is in error and she will not admit it. She has William Marion Sr. married to a Nancy Hanks and that is wrong, he married Nancy Wilkerson. I have tried to make the corrections but for some reason Ancestry .com will not change, so there are errors in the record. Goodness knows there are probably errors everywhere but at least we try and keep it accurate. I am meeting a Mr. Garland Childress from Louisville this Friday at the Family History Center in Frankfort and hope that he can help me with my line. I am so glad to hear from you and hope to meet you sometime. I am a retired professor from Eastern Ky. University, we live in Fort Pierce, Fl. for 7 months and then come back to Richmond, Ky for 5 months where I get to have a garden. I grew up on a farm in Caldwell County and still love digging in the soil. I would like to know more about your family and where you live. Cousin Dot.
