Jess Miller [email protected] While the following may not fall within the realm of genealogy per se, except perhaps with any possible decendents, it is certainly timely and appropriate and a beautiful, piognant reminder of just what today's celebration should be all about: In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That marks our place, and in the sky, The larks, still bravely signing, fly, Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead, in Flanders fields. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset's glow, Loved and were loved, but now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe, To you from failing hands we throw The torch, its yours to hold it high. But if ye break faith with us who die, We shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders fields. "In Flanders Fields" --- Lt. Col. John McCrae, MD B.1872 - D.1918 KIA just a short time before the Armistice was signed ending World War 1.

    3. Found the following on RootsWeb Review Missing Links, Vol 6, No. 21. If you are interested please contact Col. Al Alfaro at: [email protected] I am the president of Kentucky Genealogical Society, Frankfort, Kentucky, and am writing a book entitled THE PAPER TRAIL OF THE KENTUCKY NATIONAL GUARD. It will be the complete military history of each of the 120 counties in Kentucky. One of the things I do is put out to my friends a periodic newsletter, "Paper Trail of the Kentucky National Guard Newsletter," on the various subjects that I am working on. The newsletter pertains to WWII combat operations of the units of the KyNG. This is the lineage and heritage they bestowed upon the current and future guard members and citizens of the Commonwealth. It is hard for young people to realize that 60 years ago, we were them. [If you would like to be added to the newsletter mailing list, please contact Col. Alfaro. Eds.] Col. 3. For those of you who haven't found this yet.. GREAT SITE!! Enjoy Ken G. \\\|/// \\ ~ ~ // ( @ @ ) ----oOOo-(_)-oOOo----McGillekehr ********************************************************************** New!! Rootsweb Surname Resource Page!! >From the May 26, 1999 issue of the Rootsweb Review; Vol. 2, No. 21. ROOTSWEB PUTS IT TOGETHER. Have you ever wished you could look up *everything* at RootsWeb that relates to a particular surname? Now you can! Click on the new option SURNAME RESOURCES at RootsWeb's main page http://www.rootsweb.com or go directly to: http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames. Click on the letter of the alphabet for the surname of interest, and then select it from the list that appears. This will take you to a "surname resource cluster," where you can search for your surname in numerous databases. For example, using JONES you would find: http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/c/a/JONES, where you could search "B" WEB SITES, the OBITUARY DAILY TIMES, or: o The ROOTSWEB SURNAME LIST (RSL). RSL search options are by surname, Soundex, or Metaphone (the latter two are "sounds- like" matches). You can search for updates from the past two months, last month, last week, or for any mention. o TRANSCRIPTION PROJECTS. You might check to see if your immigrant ancestors' names are listed at the Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild (ISTG). o PRIMARY RECORDS AT ROOTSWEB (from USGenWeb Archives and RootsWeb Searchable Databases). o GENERAL LINKS AND SEARCH ENGINES. There are three options. o ROOTSLINK link registry. You can add a new link also. o SEEKER search engine, which returns surname matches from Web pages -- there is much "hidden genealogy" that this search will help you find. o SURNAME HELPER search engine finds queries and surname registrations posted at various genealogically-related sites on the Web, with participating sites including many USGenWeb and WorldGenWeb sites. All GenConnect boards are indexed in Surname Helper. o MAILING LISTS. Descriptions of lists that relate to this surname, subscription instructions, and links to the archives so you can search or browse past postings. o GENCONNECT. Click on GLOBAL SURNAME SEARCH to find queries that mention the surname of interest that are posted in connection with any county, state, or country in the world. Or click an icon for one of the seven automated boards that together make up a "suite" of boards available for surnames and localities (Queries, Bible records, Biographies, Deeds, Obituaries, Pensions, and Wills). RootsWeb hopes that putting these links under one SURNAME RESOURCES roof will help everyone find all the buried treasure. 1. Will Do Look-ups
    2. Rex
    3. Hi all. I have the 1850 census index for KY and will be glad to do some look-ups from it. Keep in mind when requesting a look-up that this is only an index and therefore only lists head of households. I also offer various census look-ups and other research assistance from the Allen Co. library. They are the second largest genealogy library in the country with all census records for every state as well as tons of microfilms and published materials covering every state and county in the US. Please send any requests for look-ups directly to me at [email protected] so we don't clutter the list with responses. Include either "1850 KY census look-up" or Allen Co. help" in the subject line so I don't miss your email. Let me know if you'd like a look-up. Rex I do Look-ups at the Second Largest Genealogy Library in the Country. Email me directly to inquire at [email protected]
