The light blue on the dark blue works fine. I'm not sure what it is about the red it is just hard to read. I can change the colors on all of them very easily, it is the change of one line in a css file. Do you have any suggestions fro colors that do work well? Or anyone else have suggestions for the colors? I'm not very good with decorating-- interior design or web design-- I never know which colors work best. Let me know opinions. Alice thank you for all your hard work. I'm having a little eye problem as I'm sure most people from 60-80 have had. The new grave yard transcription is beautifully done, except the red on blue is very hard for me to read. It is just a suggestion but maybe it isn't just me who has trouble with that color set up. Other then that it is a great job and beautifully done. Thank you ?Beverly Hodges -----Original Message----- From: Alice Warner <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Wed, 12 Mar 2008 11:41 pm Subject: [KYBUTLER] In light of website move concerns I apologize for having written such a brief message before that has required some individuals to email me. It has received mostly positive feedback but some negative. This email I hope will alleviate any concerns-- and I hope that any concerned individuals will email me off list so I can clear up any confusion. The Butler County KYGenweb site that is now located at http://genealogenie.net/kybutler is still part of the KYGenweb. The only thing that has changed about the project and its connections to the USGenweb project is its url. You will note it is still linked on the counties page of http://kygenweb.net . There were multiple reasons for moving off of rootsweb and onto a different server. First, I have more leeway with what can happen on the site-- I can add wikis and forum boards as I choose, as opposed to rootsweb which did not even support php or any server side technologies. This is not surprising, since rootsweb gives away a lot of space, that they would not have the technologies. Another reason is that I did not want the sites to have banner ads, and Rootsweb/TGN was going to be enforcing that shortly. One of the tenets of the KYGenweb project is not to advertise. Actually, I quote from the KYGenweb rules: (http://www.kygenweb.net/counties/Rules.htm) 3. Solicitation of funds, advertising, or using the KYGenWeb site for personal gain is not permitted. * CCs may acknowledge their host servers but may not use a KyGenWeb site to seek contributions intended to support the site. * Sites may include a listing of research materials and/or services available for sale or hire by the coordinator, genealogical/historical society or others (for example, a listing of books for sale or a list of researchers for hire), provided that the actual arrangements between the researcher and those offering the service are not conducted through the county site. Contact information and cost for ordering books or charges for lookups may be included. I believe that a banner that links to various sections within ancestry.comfalls under "seeking contributions" as it makes it seem that we suggest you go to ancestry and buy a subscription. That may just be my shallow judgement, but now that TGN is changing hands often and is worth millions of dollars, I did not feel that the website was really secure on their server. Again, you may all take different positions on that-- I am just explaining my position. KYGenweb has never required its counties to be on rootsweb and there are some that have never been on rootsweb at all. I believed that there would be no upset individuals with the move, to a nicer server with more capabilities, and still free genealogical resources. If anyone has a problem with the new website or its location, contact me off list. Submissions to the website can always be removed at the request of the submitter if it comes to that. But please rest assured that I will never be selling access to the site or asking for money from any of you. Please contact me if you have any concerns so that we can work them out. Alice Warner PS: Newest update to the website was today, the addition of the index and photos for Aberdeen Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, approximately 300 individuals, a full photographic record of the cemetery as of July 21 2007. http://genealogenie.net/kybutler/aberdeen/aberdeen.html Butler County KYGenweb CC ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Thank you Diane !!! I will get that fixed in the next couple minutes. Check back in a few minutes and it will be fixed. I was actually working on the processing of the new will pages being added, but the index should have been there. There has been a lot of discussion about this. From my understanding, RootsWeb is moving all of their sites. They will be under the banner of Ancestry.com and will no longer be free. The people that have done the work are moving what they have done under the thought that genealogy researchers would be able to use the information they posted for free-----this isn't going to be true when it is all moved under Ancestry, so many of the list administrators are moving THEIR information onto sites they can maintain themselves and still allow folks to search without paying------especially considering a lot of people can't afford the Ancestry membership. This is how I am understanding it from some of the lists I belong to. LaDonna Hinch In a message dated 3/12/2008 11:02:28 P.M. I started with the US GenWeb Site, and drilled down to Kentucky, and then drilled down to Butler County. There it was, and I was thrilled that I had discovered this site. I have been using it ever since. My concern is that you are taking it off into your own little private domain, never ever to be discovered by future researchers again. The other thing that I don't like about your moving this site, one that a number of researchers have been contributing to over the years, is that you decided arbitrarily to do it on your own without consulting with other users, and asking for their permission to move their information to your private Web Site. I know that you are supposed to be the administrator of the site, but do you have authority to do this. I don't think so! I have seen nothing anywhere to suggest that we will be charged for using the Butler County GenWeb Site. If you are wanting to have your own private little Web Site, then maybe you should establish one just for your own use, and not at the expense of all of the researchers who have been contributing and using to this site over the years. I apologize for having written such a brief message before that has required some individuals to email me. Alice Warner PS: Newest update to the website was today, the addition of the index and photos for Aberdeen Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, approximately 300 individuals, a full photographic record of the cemetery as of July 21 2007. http://genealogenie.net/kybutler/aberdeen/aberdeen.html Butler County KYGenweb CC

This email is to let you know that the Butler County KYGenweb page has moved to http://genealogenie.net/kybutler It was my intention to take all the emails off the site and email everyone who had ever submitted. However that proves infeasible at the moment (because that's a *lot* of people! And since I'm not a spammer I don't know what tools to use to "harvest" email addresses.) So, this is that notice that the site has moved. Please check us out... and check us out again in a few weeks. I have several large collections (wills, marriages) that weren't quite ready to be up with the website shift. Alice Warner Butler County KYGenweb
Alice I am interested in joining your two lists. Hi,Does anyone have info on land that was sold after 1860 for Baxter? Thank you Alma ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Hello All, I'm announcing the opening of new regional genealogy forums. Please pass this on to anyone that would be interested. I'm also moving my websites soon, to my new domain of www.genealogenie.net. I will advise you all when I am done with my transitions and the pages actually move from their current rootsweb hosting. Moving domains allows me to host a forum among other things. http://www.genealogenie.net/greenriver/index.php I look forward to seeing those of you who choose to join the forums. Alice Warner
rootsweb is having a HORRIBLE time with its servers this week. I'm sorry but it's nothing under my control. It should even out soon, but they've been telling us that for a week. I have a Precious Jane Lovelace m. to Jacob Rogers 23 Nov 1812, Nelson Co. Her parents Zacdock Lovelace & Elizabeth Pack. That's about all I have at this time. Just started to research this family of Rogers. Would your Lovelaces be from MD? That what I show.
