First, I want to unveil the new "announcement list" that you can join on the Butler County KYGenweb page. There is a little form right under the search box on the front page that allows you to enter your name and email. If you do so and follow the instructions to join the list, you will be sent emails (via the list) every time there is a new addition to the website. I have been receiving a bunch of submissions and I also have a lot that I collected last summer that I am still transcribing and indexing onto the site-- slow process but it's moving along. As a reminder, the website is located here: http://genealogenie.net/kybutler I am one of those people that generally prefers to get an email when a site is updated, but I don't like burdening public mailing lists like this when half the people don't actually want to get those messages. So the mailing list is my solution for that. It's a one way announce list-- that means that you receive emails that I send out from the list-- but it's not a chat list, or anything, so you cannot send email through the list. Therefore I can guarantee you that you will get no more than one email a day -- a daily update of new uploads. Not every day has a new upload, so some days there will be no messages. Secondly, a lot of people gave input on the cemetery photo pages and the colors I used. I would like people to check out this website: http://genealogenie.net/kybutler/lumgary.html and let me know what you think of those colors. What works about it and what doesn't. I only messed with that one cemetery colors because I want to get it straight before I edit all of mine. So, let me know. It's no good for me to put so much effort into the photos and typing them all up just for no one to be able to read them. Alice Warner [email protected] Butler County KYGenweb

I don't think he meant that. I understood him to mean Ancestry is the bad guy, not you. Patricia Haynes -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Alice Warner Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2008 12:31 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [KYBUTLER] Moving Butler Co website off of RootsWeb Don, Are you suggesting that after I moved my site off of rootsweb to keep that from happening, that everyone should pull their submissions from my site? I do respond to requests to remove data, and will do so. However the purpose of my site and the KYGenweb project is to promote free genealogy. One of the many reasons for its moving was to preserve it as a free genealogy resource in a way under my control. If you have any data on my site and are deciding that since I have gone to great lengths to preserve it as free access data, that it still falls under "thievery" and you would like data removed you will have to let me know. Suggesting that people pull out from "any of the sites" they have contributed to is very hurtful to people like me that do work for *free* genealogy. Pulling out from specific sites-- that's one thing. Just pulling all submissions-- that hurts everyone that ever wanted to see that information. But, if you truly believe in my thievery, email me immediately with links on my website of anything you have ever submitted to me and I will very willingly remove it all. Alice, Absolutely not. If anything remains on that old site or on any other Gen Web site that is being changed over by Ancestry with intent to charge to be a member of that site, then I highly recommend that they pull the data from that site to keep it from being exploited by Ancestry in any form. They are well known for this over the years and I can find others that will give testimony to it all. I feel that you have done everyone a great service by doing what you have already done. I'm sorry if I gave any other impression by my earlier statement. The thievery is fully intended to mean Ancestry and their methods. Correct you are dawn, They have owned this site all along but have decided that they can grab you by the throat and get another nickel from us, plus the fact that whatever we have posted seems to belong to them and not the contributor any longer. I would highly suggest that those who do object to this kind of thievery to go back to any of the sites that you have contributed to and retrieve your files. You do have the right to object to their using this for profit. Just download what you have in it, and send them a statement telling them that they may NOT use your info in any form without written consent. Good job and kudos to those that have put in so much time and effort into saving what is being taken away for profit.
