Here is what the book contains on William: In Bedford County, Virginia with a marriage bond dated 16 August 1781, Joanna Paine [Payne] married William McCoy; Littleberry Hurt, surety; consent of Frail Paine, brother of Joanna. (William McCoy may have been born about 1756 in Craven County, North Carolina to father Willis McCoy who was born about 1737 in Farquirer County, Virginia. Willis had married about 1755 in Craven County to Mrs. Cornelius Kesiah.) William McCay paid 1782 Bedford County taxes of £10.9, for one free male above age twenty-one, one white tithe above sixteen and three cattle. In Bedford County, 29 September 1784, William McCoy signed as surety for the marriage of John Nichols and Sarah Payne. He was a security for the estate of John Stump which was dated 11 March 1787 and proven 23 July 1787. He paid 1787 Bedford County tax on two horses and four cattle. The land of William McCoy was mentioned as adjacent to John Payne's land in Payne's will written 9 June 1798. On 24 October 1802, William McCoy of Bedford County purchased from (his nephew) Flayl Worley and Docia Worley his wife of Bedford County, for £125 current money of Virginia, 167-acres on the branches of Stanton river, adjacent Mitchell's line, Boswell's line, Hook's line, James Kasey's line. The deed was recorded 25 October 1802. William McCoy and Joannah McCoy his wife, sold this land on 10 October 1805 to William Hopkins, all of Bedford County, for £125 current money of Virginia. Additional boundaries were given as Francis Worley's line and David Worley's line. The deed was recorded 28 October 1805 and both William and Joannah signed with their marks. William McCoy was listed in Bedford County court records many times over the years 1787 until after his death in 1835.
