The info I have seen at the genealogy in SLC ( I have lived here in Utah for 3 years and spend as much time as I can at the library) doesn't quite fit with the family info I have received. My GG grandfather ( Benjamin B McCoy) was a son of John and Sarah McCoy. In the book" Kinfolk" by Opal London Cox it talks about William and Joanna Payne of Bedford County, Va. Doesn't give any info on William's parents but does mention John and Sarah McCoy of Bedford county, Va. There is a reference made regarding Thomas and John P. McCoy ( William and Joanna's sons) as being a" cousin" to Benjamin McCoy and that they served in the same unit during the War of 1812. I feel that William ( of Joanna) and John ( of Sarah) were brothers. I have also looked at genealogy message from several years ago from a Richard K McCoy. He felt that William and John were descedants of 5 Scottish brothers from Washington County, Maryland. I did find a book at the genealogy library " Revolutionay Patriots of Washington County, Maryland." There are 5 McCoy's listed pledging allegiance: Archibald McCoy,Daniel McCoy, Hugh McCoy, James Sr. McCoy, and John McCoy. Flayle Payne and Edward Payne also are listed as pleding allegiance to the revolution. Richard K McCoy said that these 5 McCoy brothers had a distinct way of signing the McCoy name. A line under the little c with 2 dots under the line. I found a WW1 registration card for my great Uncle Emett McCoy's son and that is how he signed his name on the card. I have just received info from a woman from OK. She said her grandmother Mary Angeline McCoy Girdner was related to my g grandfather John C. McCoy ( son of Benjaimin b.). Mary was born (1880) in Barbourville, Ky and migrated to OK around 1920. I found her marriage license and her father was Stephen McCoy born around 1852. Stehphen's father was Andrew McCoy killed during the civil war. Andrew's parents were John and Nancy Hatfield McCoy. I don't see a documented link yet but I do know Randall McCoy's (feud) grandfather was Archibald McCoy ( Above brother). When I was young my Uncle Lloyd McCoy told me we were related to the feuding McCoy's and a McCoy cousin told me recently that her mother talked about being related . I have been looking at Daniel McCoy ( above brother) as being William and John's father. The name Daniel is very common in the family as well as Martha ( Daniel's wife was Martha). This was a common practice back then to pass down names. I have seen fam! ily trees using this Daniel and Martha but not with proven documentation. I have seen alot of inaccuraties in family trees. Last week alot of people were complaining at the genealogy library that info that had been summitted on their family was totally wrong. A man setting next to me said " this was my grandfather and I know he didn't die in Missoui. I know when and where my grandfather died and this info is wrong!!" IAnyway, this is what I know so far. If you have a look up that might help let me know. I'm doing as much research as i can in case of a job transfer. One thing I see that is consistant is the Maryland connection. Roberta McCoy-Klamm
