Hi all... Just the past couple of days, several new things have come up for the Breck. Co. GenWeb Archives and I wanted to share with you all what was in the offing. Pam Kasey has generously granted permission to place the John Kasey diary on the GenWeb. It is 73 pages of John's account of Virginia before he moved to the area, as well as his perception of the land in Kentucky and correspondence with his Kasey family who had already moved to the Meade, Breckinridge, Hardin County area. There is also two different correspondence letters that were with the diary, which will be added on the Kasey diary links page. In addition, Jess Scott has graciously sent CD's of work she's done to be put on the Archives site. Of the work so far received, the Big Spring Methodist Episcopal Church South's Church register, Conference meeting info, and the roll books/membership books and related records from the same church during the years covering much of 1848-1897. Plus there are pictures of Big Spring as well as family shots she's sent that will be going on in the photos section. It will take me some time to get the pictures and scanned images to the required sizing for the GenWeb site, not to mention building pages to house the links to the transcriptions and things from the 4 CD's. Once it's complete and up for everyone to see, there are a TON of Breck. Co. families that can be found in this massive amount of information. I want to extend a BIG thanks of appreciation to Pam and Jess for their donations to the Archives, and what it means to all those who will benefit from it. Hi Sally... I was at the cemetery last June with my cousin who was in from Wisconsin. It was my second visit, her first. We weren't able to stay long for two reasons. One, remains of Tropical Storm Aileen/Arlene (whatever the name was) was traversing through the area giving us sporadic downpours... and two, we had teenage visitors while we were there. The rain just damped our spirits, in addition to seeing the previous damage to the cemetery. When the three teenagers showed up, we generally questioned them as we were leaving and the lack of answers confirmed that they weren't there to visit family. As we pulled out, and they went to the back of the cemetery, we got car information (plates and IDing info). Unfortunately, we were in a dead zone and couldn't alert the police fast enough for anything to be done. As far as the condition, it's better than some... but worse than others. You could go through to the back, but on the left the grass was knee high (thin and sparse). I want to say back in 2003 or 2004 there was a group of individuals that went in and restored many of the broken and destroyed stones, but when my cousins and I visited on Good Friday, 2004 (which is when the pictures on the GenWeb site were taken) more damage had been done and at least one marker was missing. My 3rd g-grandparents grave, Sandy and LeeAnn Lawson Kasey, had their marker taken down and broken into 7 or 8 pieces... was restored, and someone was mad at it being back up and tried taking it down again but was unsuccessful. Of my 4th g-grandparents, Francis Tinsley Boatright Kasey's marker was broken from the base; Singleton Lyle Kasey's marker was broken from the base and something was taken to it to shatter it into many pieces on the ground. My 3rd g-grandfather's brother, Benjamin Blissett, had a marker as of the 1970's transcription of the cemetery... but it was missing when we were there in 2004. Several of the footstones and one of the smaller markers had been broken away and piled up on one of the old gateposts that had been taken out of the ground. The gatepost was laying on the ground around a "bonfire" area so that whomever was there could "stay warm" and sit down without getting their clothes dirty. I don't how it is going with regard to law enforcement and the cemetery, maybe someone on the list can bring you up to date on that aspect. Hopefully this has helped. I do have several "general shot" pictures of the cemetery if you'd like to see them, just let me know privately in email and I'll be more than happy to show you. The condition of the cemetery then, is about what it was last June. Hi, Dana and all...... I'm a Kasey descendent and wonder if anyone knows the condition of the Kasey cemetery now? It has been seriously vandalized in the past and great many of the headstones have been severely damaged or destroyed. None of my family has been there in a year or so and I'd really like to know if the efforts made to protect it have been successful.......the sheriff's office checking on it more, etc., etc. The first time I was there eight or ten years ago no damage had been done and it was a very peaceful, beautiful spot. The next time I was there it was in the process of being destroyed. I know it's called the "Gates of Hell" by some people, rather than the Grandview or Kasey cemetery. What a shame. Sally Kasey Emily
Hi all... Here's the updates and additions to the GenWeb archives: Addition: Kasey Cemetery (partial) I've been working all day on keying the death certificates I have into the Archives database. I have abut 12 more to do before they are all in, and it will be a matter of time before I get them linked on the pages and updated. Once they are on, I'll put it on the list, and then move to my Marriage Binder. Happy Hunting! And,coincidentally, they're connected with my Dunns. We had a Josephine Miller who married Armisted Crail Dunn abt 1869 in Grayson Co.KY(around Millerstown), then, their son, Samuel, married Flossie B. Miller abt 1925 or so. I have found Flossie's parents, on the 1920 Millerstown,Grayson Co/KY census: James H. Miller, 46; wife, Catherine(Priddy)35, brother,Clarence,18, and sister,Ruth L.,5yrs. A friend told me Catherine's maiden name. He works with a Dunn man, who is ,apparently, from the Samuel Dunn/Flossie B.Miller line. Some of your Millers may be some I'm tracking. I've only just started this line, so,don't have much yet. All I've got so far(and I haven't got back to this yet)on Josephine, is that her parents were: William Miller b.1814 KY;& Delila ?,b. 1816,KY; siblings: Henrietta,b. 1838;Valentine,b. 1840;Grayson,b. 1843;Wade,b. 1846;Angelina,b. 1848;Harriet,b. 1850; Josephine,b. 1853,and Martha,b. 1857. I had that last on the 1860 Leitchfield/Grayson Co./KY census. If any of these sound familiar, let me know. You can email me at my address,if you want.

Hello everyone. I have the genealogy program Generations' Family Tree Grande Suite Version 8.0. I have had no difficulty with the program until recently. When I enter a birth date, the program will not save it. I jumped through all the hoops only to find there is no longer any technical support for this program either from Sierra or from Heritage Quest. Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, is there a fix? Thanks for any help you can provide. D. Mark Huddleston Henry Huddlestun, Sr. Bucks Co. PA Henry Huddlestun, Jr. Bucks Co. PA Abraham Huddlestun- Bucks Co. Hi all... As of today, 2/12/2006, the first of two parts for the Big Spring UMC Cemetery were put on the Tombstone Index. This covers the surnames Ammons through Hodge. The second part will be up as soon as I can get each one typed up and loaded onto the server. Once it is finished, it will cover the surnames Huffines through Wortham. I still have roughly the back two or three rows before it is totally photographed, so it will not be a complete transcription once the second page is added to the Index. And in taking a break from the cemetery transcriptions/photo resizing/general page construction, I finished up another page and just added it to the main Breck. Co. Archives page. It is a military photo page of individuals from Breck. Co. who served during WW II and the Korean War. My g-grandmother had a scrapbook she cut and pasted a lot of articles, pictures, obits, marriage announcements, and a few births. It is from this scrapbook that I've been able to "cut out" the individual pictures in my photo program and put them on the Archives site. I know they are newspaper pictures, but she didn't listed from which paper, the Irvington Herald or the Breck. News, so I couldn't accurately list which paper or even a date. Being that she and my g-grandfather lived in Irvington, I assume most if not all came from the Irvington Herald. There are some that are not of the best quality picture, as it is difficult to make out much of the face. That is due to the copy machine at work being an old one at the time of my copying the scrapbook pages. The scrapbook is back in the hands of my cousin and I don't believe I will ever have the chance to recopy the pictures. Hopefully the pics will help someone out with their research!
