    1. 1870 and 1880 Census Transcriptions
    2. Hi all... Here in a few I'll be adding the last remaining records for the Big Spring Church records that Jess Scott has graciously donated to the GenWeb Archives. It should complete the two register/membership books dating from 1848 up into the 1900's. I'm hoping to get more information regarding other books that might be available from the church to add to the site. I'll also be adding the text and images from the letters that John Kasey received and were found within the contents of the "John Kasey diary" donated by Pam Kasey. There is someone presently transcribing the diary, so I'm hoping within the coming weeks to start getting that typed in and added to the site where the images are currently residing. Wanted to let everyone know that Judy Hartsock and I are going to work together on transcribing the 1870 census for Breck. Co. While the LDS site has the 1880 census, we are going to transcribe it as well so that the complete 1870 and 1880 census' for the entire Breck. Co. area will be available for you all to read on the Archives site. I still haven't found a way for images to be provided so you can see the actual along side the transcription, but at least the transcribed information will be on the Archives site. With having the "search" element on the site, that might help... or when you are on the actual transcription page, you can hold down "Ctrl" and press "f" and it will give you a search box... allowing you to search that entire page for a name. If anyone else wants to work on the 1900 or 1910 census' for Breck. Co., let me know. We could really use the help! Before I close, I want to say a BIG thank you to Judy for her hard work. She helped transcribe one complete book of the Big Spring records, two letters found within the John Kasey diary, and now the 1870 and 1880 census transcriptions. Your help has been invaluable and I can't say thank you enough for all you've done to help preserve the Breckinridge County history and it's people so they are never forgotten!! Happy Hunting.... 3. I went to the eBay site to see this book, which I was thinking was by Bill Thompson. It is the same little red book that I have in my library and is in most of the genealogy libraries that have books on Breckinridge Co., KY. My mother bought me the book as a gift when we went there to do some research in 1979 or 1980 - I think she paid about $8 for it, but that was over 25 years ago. I saw that $65 plus $3.75 for shipping and thought that is ridicules. The book is worth the $20 plus $1.50 shipping (brand new) that you can order through Sam McDowell's web site. The eBay seller should have checked to see if the book was still available from the author or publisher and then price the book accordingly. Even if this book was no longer available, $25 to $30 would be maximum value in my opinion, especially since it is available in libraries. Willard Library in Evansville has a copy. John G. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YAB.2ACI/1020.1.1 Message Board Post: Here's some information that may help. It's from Norman Payne's book: "Payne and Associated families of Breckinridge County, KY": JUBAL McCOY, the eighth child of William and Joanna (Payne) McCoy, was born about 1799 (according to 1850 census) in Bedford County, Virginia. In Bedford County on 17 February 1825 he married Tamsey Smelser who was born 1802/3 in Virginia. John Smelser signed as surety. She was the daughter of Abraham and Sallie Smelser. Jubal and Tamsey migrated to Breckinridge County, Kentucky between 1835 and 1840 according to the births of their children in the 1850 census. Next they moved to Jasper County, Illinois. On 17 June 1878, Tamsey McCoy of Jasper County, hired an attorney to dispose of her one-eleventh interest in the property of her deceased parents near Bufordville, Bedford County, Virginia. The power-of-attorney was recorded in Bedford County Deed Book YY-51, pages 93-94. On 6 July 1878 she received $130 when the property was sold to Rowland D! . Buford. The settlement was recorded on page 94 of the same book and Book ZZ-52, pages 182-183. Jubal and Tamsey were the parents of at least five children. 1) SALLY McCOY was born 1830 (1825?) in Bedford County, Virginia. 2) JOANNA McCOY was born 1833 in Bedford County, Virginia. 3) JAMES McCOY was born 1835 in Bedford County, Virginia. 4) NANCY McCOY was born 1840 in Kentucky 5) MATILDA McCOY was born 1843 in Kentucky

    3. I'm looking for a marriage record of William Boyd Short, married to Caroline Wariner or Warren. Their only child, Charles McPherson Short. On Charles death certificate it mentions his parents names.. The closest that I can figure out that William probably got married in the late 60's but no later then 1872, because that's when Charles McPherson Short was born. I have not been able to place William Boyd Short on the 1870 census. So I want to think that he was married after 1870 but no later then 1872. Remember Charles was born in 1872. If you happen to have a marriage record book on hand could you please check the index. for William Boyd Short and Caroline Wariner or Warren. Charlotte

At present she's helping to transcribe one of the two CD's of records for Big Spring Methodist Episcopal Church. If I can get things worked out, as well as a few more volunteers, I have the 1870, 1880, 1900, and 1910 census' for Breckinridge County that Judy Ann has also volunteered to help transcribe to get online. Still trying to work it out to so that the images will be placed online when transcriptions for those years are available. Please take note of the "names" of where the records are found. 2. Thank you to all who have responded concerning the 1890 census. I took the information I gleaned from your comments and tried them out. No one seems to have any information on my husband's great-greatgrandfather as he virtually appears in no census that we know of. After doing a google search for the 1890 census, I found that there was a territorial census conducted for Oklahoma. Voila! I think I may have found him yet.
