Surnames: Payne, McCoy Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YAB.2ACI/1020.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Roberta, since the book concentrates on Payne ancestors and descendants, William McCoy is only mentioned briefly as he joins the Payne family. Here is what the book contains on William: In Bedford County, Virginia with a marriage bond dated 16 August 1781, Joanna Paine [Payne] married William McCoy; Littleberry Hurt, surety; consent of Frail Paine, brother of Joanna. (William McCoy may have been born about 1756 in Craven County, North Carolina to father Willis McCoy who was born about 1737 in Farquirer County, Virginia. Willis had married about 1755 in Craven County to Mrs. Cornelius Kesiah.) William McCay paid 1782 Bedford County taxes of £10.9, for one free male above age twenty-one, one white tithe above sixteen and three cattle. In Bedford County, 29 September 1784, William McCoy signed as surety for the marriage of John Nichols and Sarah Payne. He was a security for the estate of John Stump which was dated 11 March 1787 and proven 23 July 1787. He paid 1787 Bedford County tax on two horses and four cattle. The land of William McCoy was mentioned as adjacent to John Payne's land in Payne's will written 9 June 1798. On 24 October 1802, William McCoy of Bedford County purchased from (his nephew) Flayl Worley and Docia Worley his wife of Bedford County, for £125 current money of Virginia, 167-acres on the branches of Stanton river, adjacent Mitchell's line, Boswell's line, Hook's line, James Kasey's line. The deed was recorded 25 October 1802. William McCoy and Joannah McCoy his wife, sold this land on 10 October 1805 to William Hopkins, all of Bedford County, for £125 current money of Virginia. Additional boundaries were given as Francis Worley's line and David Worley's line. The deed was recorded 28 October 1805 and both William and Joannah signed with their marks. William McCoy was listed in Bedford County court records many times over the years 1787 until after his death in 1835.
Hi all.... Wanted to write and let everyone know about updates and additions to the Breck. Co. GenWeb Archives. Wasn't able to get anything typed and uploaded last weekend due to a family emergency, but should be back on track now. Wilma Kaplan has started transcribing the 1880 Breck. Co. census (after a few kinks were worked out). Judy Hartsock and I are working on the Bewleyville District portion of the 1870 census at present. I'm still checking to see if we can upload the transcriptions by district, or if it has to be the entire census year. If it's by district, then hopefully within the next couple of weeks the Bewleyville District will be up. Again, if anyone would like to transcribe the census', email me privately and we'll see what we can get working. It would mean downloading the required program that GenWeb has for transcribing (it seems to make it much easier), and it doesn't have to be for a whole census.... it could be for one district in one particular year. Also, I know I have records that can be added/transcribed, so if a census undertaking isn't within someone's scope of helping, I can scan records and send via email or if it's a "big" undertaking I can scan and burn to a disc and send snail mail. For me, it's about getting what's out there, up and on the site to help as many researchers as possible. Hopefully what's gleaned on the Archives site is prompting some new finds for you all, and is resulting in new cousins... new leads... new info... and research/copy requests for the ladies at the courthouse in Hardinsburg. Here's the updates/additions: Obituaries/Death Notices (updates): Pages "A", "B", "C", "D", "F", "G", "H", "K", "L", "M", "N", "P", "R", "S" Court Order Books (addition): Dr. William Hall account book listings; pages 136, 137, 138 (this is incomplete at present, with 4 or 5 more pages to transcribe. This is a virtual "Who's Who" within Breck. Co. and around the Custer area of patients Dr. Hall administered to.) Happy Hunting! Hi Shereen... At this point, I don't know on a marker. I used part of a list I had been given by my cousin, and I put in the "updated" part which was the stones that I photographed. I'm due to go on vacation the second week in April and am planning on photographing the remaining rows of Custer while there in Breck. Co. So if she is listed on the actual Custer Cemetery list but there's no link to a transcription or picture, I would venture to say there is "something", I just haven't gotten to it yet. As far as family records, I wish I were able to help you out... but I don't have Sosh in my family lines. Of the Minters that I have in my lines, it was only via marriage to a sibling of one of my directs, so not able to help you on that. Maybe someone on the list has more info that they could help you with it. Dana, I was at the Custer Cemetery yesterday looking for the grave of Ida Conway Sosh. I could not locate it. Does she have a stone or is it an unmarked grave? Any assistance would be appreciated. Also, do you know if John, her husband, remarried after her death? Ida was a sister to my grandfather, Henry Conway. She was a 1/2 sister to Josephine Allen Minter that is also buried at Custer along with some of her children. Shereen Wethington shereen@starrstainless.com

Hi all... The last of the Big Spring Methodist Church South records were added today, completing the posting of the images and transcriptions of both books. Many, many thanks to Jess Scott for graciously granting permission to use her copies to post on the site. The records provide a real insight to the times, the people, and the church it's self. On the census', Judy Hartsock and I are working on transcribing/keying in the 1870; Wilma Kaplan will be starting on the 1880 census. Once Judy and I are finished with the 1870... she will be second transcriber to Wilma's 1880, and I'll start on the 1900. Slowly but surely we'll have the written info up for you all to see and begin getting information from. And thanks to all who have written offering suggestions and advice concerning the census images'. Hopefully I've gotten back to all regarding it. One individual put me in touch with Charlie Gregory from the Smith County, Tennessee GenWeb. The person was hoping the good fortune they had with access to census images would work for us... unfortunately, it won't help at present. He did suggest a few things, which I'm going to email the list admin concerning what the protocol is regarding it. So for now, we'll be without images... but maybe in time. With that... here's the recent additons/updates to the site: Methodist Episcopal Church South; Big Spring Conference Records: Olla Mae Clarkson Hardaway letter Mrs. J. H. Hi there Bob... Well, if I had a book for the 1870 census to check it against, that would be a good idea. Unfortunately I don't have one... I have only the 1860 census in print and I don't have census film of that year. Due to copyright laws for books and/or purchased CD's, some companies/individuals can't or won't grant permission for images or whole books. I've thought about contacting one or two specific individuals regarding census books that they've abstracted and written, but I don't have the contact information to ask for their permission at this time. Regarding images, I have looked into one company and possibly getting permission to place the images with the transcriptions that Judy and I will be doing (as well as Wilma, she just volunteered last night)... but they have a disclaimer stating that they have a format with which the census' they sell are photographed in, and as such it is considered copyrighted and they consider it "cutting into their profit margin". So, I'm hoping a miracle comes up somewhere along the way in which images of the census' can be placed online for viewing, just like the 1850 images are available for anyone to view. Due to copyright laws, though, my hands are tied. Dana Breckinridge County, Kentucky GenWeb Archives Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/breckinridge/toc.html Mail to: BrieSkate@aol.com
