Hi all... Just wanted to send a quick email to let you all know I've got an update on the Civil War Veteran's page. It's not quite finished, but the last handful should be online soon. I'm also keying in the information for the Hensley-Dowell Cemetery, and should have the first page of it completed soon too. Happy Hunting! I have no idea if we are related, but I would like to ask you... do you have any Hall ancestors that came from Ireland? -OR- a Henry M. Hall b. in Alabama? My gr gr grandfather, Henry M. Hall b. 1842 Alabama, descended from parents that came from Ireland. I don't know the names of his parents. Also, Henry M. Hall went to KY at some time before 1879. That is where he married my gr gr grandmother, Ellen Slayback in 1880. He was married once before he married Ellen and a son was born in 1879 in KY from that 1st mrg The following is a possibility for his first mrg, but I can't prove it. Henry M. HALL b: 1842 in Alabama d: 1913 +Anna M. ? b: Abt. 1852 probably d: Bef. 14 Nov 1880 .......... 2 [1] George Russell HALL b: 1879 in Boone Co., Kentucky d: 1943 .............. +Mary Florence "Mamie" EASTHAM b: 1881 in Ohio d: 1978 Henry and his second wife, Ellen, were mrd when George was abt 11 mos old. George didn't know any other mother. This makes me believe Henry's first wife died in childbirth or from complications of childbirth, since Ellen raised George. George returned to AL as an adult after he mrd Aunt Mamie. Henry went to visit his son George in AL and died there. Does any of this fit into your Hall family genealogy? Besides not knowing Henry's parents, I think there is possibly an entire first family of Henry's that I don't have (except for his son George). Henry was considerably older than his second wife, Ellen. They had 11, possibly 12 children. Ellen always considered George her son, so the twelfth child could be George or one born and died between census and therefore I have no record of him/her. I know this is a long shot, considering how common the Hall surname is, but had to take a chance. Thanks for any help!! Please contact me privately. Joyce Franz [email protected]
Hi all... Wanted to email real quick that the last of the Old Ivy Hill Cemetery has been uploaded and added to the Cemetery portion of the Breck. Co. GenWeb Archives site. Sorry it's taken so long, I lost a friend to cancer earlier this week and it's been difficult to get motivate to do much of anything. I should be back on track now and getting Hensley-Dowell named and indexed. And, a co-worker and I are hopefully heading to Breck. Co. this coming weekend and have plans to photograph all of Freedom Cumberland Presb. cemetery. Happy Hunting! Hi all... Well, when I signed on, my email went before I was ready for it to go. Still learning the email system on this new server. Wanted to let you all know that it's not page 2 of Old Ivy Hill Cemetery that I was able to get up and going, but page 2 AND page 3 of Old Ivy Hill Cemetery. I was able to figure out a few of the unknown markers from looking a great deal at the individual picture and trying to match it to the data I had in front of me. Hopefully the others will come easier with time. Hopefully I'll get the remainder of Old Ivy Hill finished tomorrow and it will be completely online. Happy Hunting! HORSLEY was named "Ralph". Pretty common occurance in doing family interviews. Well, that was exactly what I was told. Berry L. HORSLEY was born about 1823 in Kentucky according to Illinois census records. Pretty slim information to work with. I posted a message on the KY list and got a reply, among many good suggestions, that stated there was a "Ralph HORSLEY", age 68, listed in the 1870 Breckinridge County census with wife Delila, age 60. About the right time frame for Berry to be a child [ at least for Ralph ] if he was one of the first couple born. This peaked my interest immediately, as would be normal. Step back n time twenty years. On the Breckinridge County web page I found a link to the 1850 census: District 2 page 63B family 258 has Rafael HORSLEY, age 48, with wife Delia, age 41, several children, a Levi HORSLEY, age 84 and Sarah, age 74. [ Ralph.............................Rafael.................................hmmmmmmmmmmmm Delia............................Delila...................double hmmmmmmmmmm ] Not an exact match but with census takers often writing down what "they" heard, well......... The time frame becomes a bit more workable with the seven year age difference instead of the ten shown in 1870. By 1850 Berry was already in Coles County Illinois married to Sarah _______ raising a family of his own so no chance of finding him listed with his parents. Berry did have a son named Simeon AND there is a child listed something like Symeon, age 17, with Rafael and Delia. There was also a William HORSLEY closely associated with Berry in Coles County. There is a child William, age 15, listed on the census. SO, I guess the question then becomes: Does anyone have any further information on this/these family/families? [ even a no chance is something ] I haven't finished going through all the 1850 census pages but did find another name of interest a couple pages later. Hi all... Wanted to take a quick second and let you all know that I finally got the webpage built and put online for the Civil War Grave Registration information. Mr. Bobby Priest, who is a member of the SUVCW, has compiled over the years data from cemeteries throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee of Union Soliders and submitted them to the Sons of the Veterans of the Civil War. He has also documented many of the Confederate Soldiers burial locations and grave information. At present, all I have copies of are his Kentucky records. It is through his generosity, and gracious blessing, that we have the beginnings of these records online for anyone to access. Bear in mind, these records only show information gleaned from work he's derived from walking cemeteries and any possible book work to corroborate the information. So while some may have more information than others, he's tried to be as informative as possible. Most records have a name, burial location (with directions or approximations). In some cases he has Unit information, enlistment/discharge information, and death date information (where possible, birth dates may be available). From the submitted pictures in the Breck. Co. GenWeb Archives, several of the names with in Bobby's donated material have fortunately been ones that pictures of the headstones/markers are available. Oh, and y'all bear with some of my typing errors. The past few weeks have given me a severe case of "brain fry" with so much information. Happy Hunting! Hi all... I know I've been quite for over a week, but it's due to being extremely busy on this end. Carolin Pettit in Oregon has been transcribing the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Roll/Minute book, Judy Hartsock in Texas has been working on the 1870 census AND transcribing the Garfield Baptist Church Roll/Minute book, and I've been working (here the past week and a half) on the Old Ivy Hill Cemetery in Hardinsburg. I haven't shelved my part of the 1870 census, just wanted to make sure I got all the pictures from Old Ivy Hill, Garfied, and Hensley-Dowell indexed and resized while my memory is still working. As of late Saturday night, I completed transcribing the Old Ivy Hill Cemetery of roughly 340 or so stones. I have roughly 50 "unknown" markers for various reasons, but for the most part they all came out looking great. And while it took a week to get them all named, resized, transcribed, and ready to put on the site... I knew you guys could really use them. So, as of 10 minutes ago, the first page of four pages was loaded onto the GenWeb site. Hopefully it will only take several days per page, as opposed to a whole week for one page. Once I get Old Ivy Hill up for everyone, I'm going to tackle Hensley-Dowell, as it is the smaller of the two remaining cemeteries with a little over 200 markers. I'm saving Garfield for last as it was well over 450 markers and took over 3 hrs. to photograph. In the end, it's something I truly hope you all will gain a great deal of information on missing ancestors. If you find a broken link, PLEASE let me know. While I'm working hard and trying to be as meticulous as possible in my details and information, I'm not perfect and know that there is going to be a broken link here or there... or something not working right. If it's there and a "working link", yet you can't access it... then it needs to be fixed. Happy Hunting!
