    3. Hi all.... The Archives site now has two more updates to it. Thanks to Dave Rafferty, he has submitted an 1880 census abstract of the Miller family as well as a picture of Bradley Rafferty and information about him. The census abstract can be found in the Census and Tax Lists page (be sure to scroll down to the bottom portion of the page for any abstracts); the Bradley Rafferty photo can be found on the Photos page under the Individual Photos section. 1. [KYBRECKI] Harriet or Matilda Allen
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ALLEN, ROBINSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YAB.2ACI/2760 Message Board Post: Don't know how to start this post except to work backward. Santa Allen was born 1876 and died 1917. He married Anna McClellan in 1900. His death cert. listed Cyrus Robinson as father and Matilda Allen as mother. Until I got the death cert. I thought Matilda was his sister and Harriet his mother. Matilda was born 1856 and died 1894. In 1860 Harriet and Matilda (age 4) ADAMS were alone together. By 1870 both (now using surname ALLEN) are living with Cyrus Robinson and Harriet is listed as a "housekeeper". James (1865), John W. (1867) and Tom (1868) are with them (All ALLEN surname). In 1880 Felix (1871), Essie (1874), Santa (1876) and Francis (1878) are added. I'm thinking the first group of children belonged to Harriet and a Bill Allen and the second group to Matilda and Cyrus. Then in 1884 Matilda marries Columbus Tate at the home of Cyrus Robinson, moves to Grayson Co. and has a child, Cliffie Tate. Cyrus didn't die until 1890 so ???? Harriet and the other chil! dren remain with Cyrus and he leaves his property to the ALLEN children. It all seems strange. Anyone got any ideas or better yet information!! 3. Hi all.... Just finished uploading the newest pages. Many, MANY thanks to Dave Rafferty for his submissions. He submitted Bible Records for William Johnson Dean, John Allen Dean, and Summers Dean. Dave also submitted the cemetery transcriptions for the John Dean Family Cemetery, the Summers Dean Family Cemetery, William Johnson Dean Family Cemetery, and the Henry Dean Family Cemetery. Also many thanks to Peggy Russell for submitting her copy of the Marriage Journal of the Rev. Henry Thomas Basham. From what I understand, a copy of the abstracted records can also be found at the Archives there at the courthouse in Hardinsburg. If by chance you aren't sure where to go looking for these, or any new records, you can check out the "What's New" page and it will give you the main page the new information is on and you can click on a link to take you there. Also, Judy and I are close to having the 1870 Bewleyville District transcribed... so hopefully it won't be much longer and you all will have those to access! Happy Hunting! 1. [KYBRECKI] Article about first African slaves in America - Washington Post
    2. A great article in today’s Washington Post By Lisa Rein Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, September 3, 2006; Page A01 JAMESTOWN -- They were known as the "20 and odd," the first African slaves to set foot in North America at the English colony settled in 1607. For nearly 400 years, historians believed they were transported to Virginia from the West Indies on a Dutch warship. Little else was known of the Africans, who left no trace. Now, new scholarship and transatlantic detective work have solved the puzzle of who they were and where their forced journey across the Atlantic Ocean began. The slaves were herded onto a Portuguese slave ship in Angola, in Southwest Africa. The ship was seized by British pirates on the high seas -- not brought to Virginia after a period of time in the Caribbean. The slaves represented one ethnic group, not many, as historians first believed…. <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/02/AR200609020 1097.html> http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/02/AR2006090201 097.html
