Hi all.... Made a late night addition to the Archives website. Robert Haviland submitted a picture (ca. 1940's) of the "Lincoln Family Trail" historical marker. The picture, and accompanying text document, can be found in the Photographs section under "Places in Breckinridge County". Many thanks to Robert and to Dave Rafferty to their recent additions to the "Places in Breckinridge County" section. Happy Hunting! Hi all... Wanted to let you all know about an item that was posted to the GenWeb site today. Dave Rafferty submitted a photo of a historical marker in Cloverport on the banks of the Ohio River. The historical marker denotes where the early shipping port was, which is right across the street from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. It has a little history on it regarding how the flatboats, and later steamboats, would stop there. The picture and text document can be found in the Photograph's Section, under "... Places". Y'all have a great one! Happy Hunting! Dana Breckinridge County Kentucky GenWeb Archives Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ky/breckinridge/toc.html Email to: [email protected]

Hi all... Yes, the server is now up and the new items are viewable on the GenWeb Archives site. Just got word a little bit ago and uploaded the pages to the server. I checked them out and they are all there. Oh, and the Rev. Taylor marriage journal is so large I've had to at least do it in two parts. The first part covers 1827-1846. I have this feeling that there will be 3 parts to the journal, as I'm not quite halfway through. You guys have a great one! Happy Hunting! Hi all... One of the GenWeb servers is down, so I've been unable to link up the work that I've done today and tonight for you all to see. I still, though, wanted to let you know what was done so when it does get fixed, you'll know what's available. Additions: Marriage Journal of Rev. James Taylor, 1827-1867; part 1 (complete for marriages listed from 1827- 1846) Updates: "A Glimpse of the Past" following sections: Home Remedies Toys Games Childhood Days Music and Dancing Early American Indoor Plants Depending on events tomorrow, I hope to get the remaining sections in the "A Glimpse of the Past" booklet typed up and online. Say a little prayer that the server gets fixed soon! Y'all have a great one! Happy Hunting! Hi all.... I uploaded the "new pages" to the Census portion of the website. It is more a "new look" to it than anything, as all the information that has been sent in thus far is on the site. Hopefully it will help you locate family easier, in addition to being better able to source your information when recording it. Over time as the various census' are transcribed, the spaces will fill with links to those pages housing the information. As far as the 1850 census goes (on the website), I was really confused at times with what was in the server. It seems that there were three individual listings attempted or uploaded. It took a piece of paper and a little writing down to figure out what went where so that it wasn't so confusing and flowed with relative ease. You'll understand when looking at the page... I hope. The scanned images are listed by page number and "a" or "b" so that when you locate them on the index with their corresponding page, you can go right to it. In my learning of the census yesterday, District 2 seemed to be photographed first (maybe it was turned in first or the census taker for that District arrived to received his paperwork/ledger before the census taker for District 1)... so the numbers for District 1 will be larger than those of District 2. I talked with my cousin who was the sister in law to the late Daniel Lynn Bolin. I have received permission from the Bolin family to type in information from one of Lynn's works for the website. Lynn worked on and edited the information that was done for the "Marriage Journal of the Rev. James Taylor 1826-1867" back in 1973. With this granting of permission from the family, I am happy to announce that the marriages Rev. Taylor performed will be online shortly for everyone to peruse through and search for family members. The information is not like some of the later marriage licenses where much more information can be gleaned, this transcription he did from the marriage journal only lists the bride and grooms names and date of marriage. I've began typing them out when I'm taking a break from typing up the remaining "A Glimpse of the Past" booklet. I know, a lot of irons in the fire going at once... but they will be well worth it once it's all up for everyone to access. The Rev. Taylor's records will be accessible sometime this afternoon, and as I continue to type in and save to the server each day, it will automatically update the link. With all that said, I'm heading out to start working. Y'all have a good one! Happy Hunting! Hi all... Since I've taken the day off from work, I decided to do some revisions I'd been wanting to do that I think would help everyone find a few things easier. The Census Transcription area is beginning to fill in, but I wanted to make it not only a little easier to see (for people like me who have a hard time seeing small print), but a little easier knowing where you were "at" or "going to". I designed a page for the 1880 census since Wilma is getting more and more done with that set of information. Now you can see not only the ED and page number, but I've also included the "name/area" of the district involved. For that of the 1880 which Wilma has already uploaded, it is ED 19, but it is also known as the Hardinsburg District. So on the census page it not only lists the "technical" paging, but it lists what area of the county. If you all are like me, every little bit of identifying will help. Plus, if you aren't sure where they were in 1880, but know family was in a certain area in 1870, the listing of the area may help a little more I'm going to try and see what would be the best way for not only the transcription portion of the 1850 census, but for the scanned pages portion as well. It might be that I would need to enlist some help from you all in identifying the ED areas.... but we'll see once I get started. I want to make the GenWeb Archives site as user-friendly as possible. While I may not have a whole lot of time on my hands to do researching, if you are like me... every little tidbit that helps point me in the right direction helps to eliminate wasted time in searching. Hi Dana, Thought I'd bring you up to date. I've translated 4190 individuals on the census. The Excel program is soooo much better than CenTrans that I should be able to move much faster now. I had two folks interested in proofing but they now have other projects. As soon as I find others to proof I'll send that portion for online posting. Sorry about being so slow with this project. Wilma
Hi all.... Was able to upload another section of "A Glimpse of the Past" booklet. This one was recipes. I couldn't help but smile when I read some of the recipes... thinking of my ancestors possibly making some of these food items. I started to call them "delicacies", but when you read some of what they ate... delicacy really just didn't hit my stomach all that well. I think you'll understand when you read it. They definitely had some interesting "dishes"... especially concerning violets! The "A Glimpse of the Past" booklet sections can be found in the "Old Fashioned 'Means and Ways' " section on the Archives site. Happy Hunting! Dana, you do so very much for all of us. You never need to apologize for taking time to do for yourself and your family. IMHO, you and they come first anyway. Hi all... Sorry for not really adding anything new over the past two weeks. Between car problems, health problems, and my 93 yr. old grandmother having a stroke... I haven't been able to do much of anything lately. Tonight I did upload a submission from Tanya Curtis for the Marriage Section that she submitted two weeks ago. I'm sorry I wasn't able to get it on the site sooner, and I want to apologize to her for that. I'm going to try and do a little typing on the "Glimpses of the Past" booklet so as to get back on track with it and have it complete here in the coming week. Y'all have a great one!....
