Beth, I have looked for several "family" type cemeteries in the area. I have found that the best thing to do is to just stop and ask people. Look on a map, find Rt.315 and get on it. Stop at the first store or town--post offices are always good, or firestations--or just ask anyone who happens to be out in their yard where it is. Folks have lived in this region for generations and it's for sure that someone will know where the "old Roger Spicer" farm is. Heck, whoever you ask may even be a relative! A few months ago we were down for a genealogy trip. Stayed at the Jackson Inn. Didn't know where we were going but asked the hotel clerk. Turns out he not only knew where one of the cemeteries was located---but it was on the farm his family owned and he was a cousin!!! Also turns out he lived next door to my husband's uncle who lives in Chavies in Perry County. On that same trip we were looking for another one. I had a general location, much like yours. We looked for the nearest little "burg" and went driving on a scenic route. Came out near a little store/post office in Athol. Asked a lady sitting on the porch. She pointed us in the right direction and said it was "a purt good distance from here up that a way." We went up "that a way" a few miles then asked a man who was getting in his car to leave (by now we are on a one lane gravel road). He told us to go up a couple miles, cross the creek at the log barn, then a couple more miles ...so we did. Then we asked a guy working on his tractor in his barnyard. He told us to cross another creek, hang a right (but go up past it, turn around first because the turn was too sharp to make from that direction) and head up the holler about 3 miles. Then cross another creek and go on up the mountain. Said we could drive right up to it and there was room to turn around. We stopped one more time at the bottom of the hill to make that turn around (he was certainly right about that!) and to ask some folks sitting on their porch if we were going right. They confirmed it for us and said they'd watch for us to come out in case we got stuck or something. And that's just a couple of my good experiences there. Just remember...no one gets in a hurry about anything. They are good people and the majority of them will help you if they can. We had similar experiences in Powell and Perry counties also.
