The story as passed down to me was that Boyd Griffith and Elijah Coode Bowling became involved in an argument over who had the best team of oxen and Elijah struck Boyd with a rock, not intending to kill him. The story further states that Elijah took the morphine as a result of feeling badly over Boyd's death. So much for his being a feudist. Elijah Coode Bowling died Septembe 29, 1903 seven days after Boyd Griffith's death."
