The upper case L looks very much like an upper case S in writing from that time period. A transcriber gives one of my ancestors the occupations of "Miller and Lawyer", it should be "Miller and Sawyer." I looked at the census image and I can see how that mistake was made. Something to think about if you're trying to do a computer search for an "S" or an "L".
