John Cabot Sandlin, 94, of Knightstown, IN, died Tuesday evening, September 25, 2001, at Hickory Creek in New Castle, IN after an extended illness. He was born October 24, 1906 in Breathitt County, Kentucky to Asbury and America (Miller) Sandlin. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Verdis (Riley) Sandlin of Knightstown, two daughters: Geneva (husband Robert) Galyen of New Castle; and Jeri (husband John) Springman of Carthage; seven grandchildren: Carolyn Sue Barnett, Robert Galyen, Jr., Jeffrey Galyen, Teresa Dulin, John Springman, Jr, Deborah Springman and Tina Drew: ten great-grandchildren;a great-great-grandchild; a brother: Elmer Sandlin of Scipio, Indiana: a sister; Eva Canfield of Burkesville, Kentucky: a half-sister; Wanda wilson of North Vernon, Indiana: two half-brothers; Jack and Michael Sandlin of Hayden, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; Anna Carmack, Maude Casson, and Georgia Sandlin; a brother; Norman Sandlin; and infant siblings; Robert, Prudy and Alex. Funeral services were Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial was at Glen Cove Cemetery at Knightstown.
