That is the archives for the mailing list http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/KYBREATH/ which is different from the USGenWeb archives. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/ky/breathitt/Breathitt.html I can not take information from the mailing list and post it to the USGenWeb archives due to copyright infringement laws. The only information that goes to the UsGenWeb archives has to be submitted by someone. For those of you who are not familiar with the USGenWeb Archives it is a free website that stores genealogy records for everyone to use. It is run by volunteers such as myself and many others. To give you an idea what you can submit to the USGenWeb Archives just check out some of the other counties in Kentucky. Here is the main page for the Kentucky Archives. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/ky/kyfiles.html For those of you who have not been to the archives I think you will be quite amazed at how much free information there is for you. Hope this helps, Darrell You can see my entire family tree posted at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~warner/surnames.htm For my current e-mail address go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000008 ----- Original Message ----- From: <LyndaCGKyCol@aol.com> To: <KYBREATH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 04, 2004 6:56 AM Subject: Re: [KYBREATH-L] Breathitt County Archives > In a message dated 10/4/2004 1:19:43 AM Eastern Standard Time, > darrellwarner@kc.rr.com writes: > >> As far as I know there are not any files other than what was there. Carter Genealogical Codicil to My Last Will and Testament To my spouse, children, guardian, administrator and/or executor: Upon my demise it is requested that you DO NOT dispose of any or all of my genealogical records, both those prepared personally by me and those records prepared by others which may be in my possession, including but not limited to books, files, notebooks or computer programs for a period of two years. During this time period, please attempt to identify one or more persons who would be willing to take custody of the said materials and the responsibility of maintaining and continuing the family histories. [If you know whom within your family or friends are likely candidates to accept these materials, please add the following at this point: "I suggest that the persons contacted regarding the assumption of the custody of these items include but not be limited to" and then list the names of those individuals at this point, with their addresses and telephone numbers if known] In the event you do no find anyone to accept these materials, please contact the various genealogical organizations that I have been a member of and determine if they will accept some parts or all of my genealogical materials. [List of organizations, addresses and phone numbers at bottom; include local chapters, with their addresses, phone numbers and contact persons if available as well as state/national contact information and addresses] Please remember that my genealogical endeavors consumed a great deal of time, travel, and money. Therefore it is my desire that the products of these endeavors be allowed to continue in a manner that will make them available to others in the future. That sounds like a good idea. I had been searching for my families of Mullins, Smith, Medley, Birchfield, Vancleve and several others from around Breathitt/Perry/Knott counties. This went on for approxiately 3 years and my computer crashed, I lost it all. Luckily I had some wrote down but having to search for the rest all over again. Ruth Bowman
and a good day to you darryl terry
I usually remind everyone to back up their work on the first of the month. Since we were on a trip at that time, I am running a tad late in the reminder this month. I have just corresponded with someone who had a computer crash and lost all their work. Now is the time to back everything up so if you have a crash you will still have your data. Carter
thank you for the thoughtful reminder. May the grace of the Lord be upon you.
