    1. New Bill Will Close Records to Genealogists
    2. Kathy Latshaw
    3. Below came this morning from Rootsweb Review newsletter and I thought it important to pass along. Kathy * * * New Bill Will Close Records to Genealogists HR10, which was mentioned in the 13 October issue of RootsWeb Review, has passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives and is now part of S.2845. The amendments suggested by David Rencher in his letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman J. Dennis Hastert, were NOT incorporated into this legislation. Thus, the terms of HR10 will now be considered by the Senate, as part of S.2845. If S.2845 becomes law, as now written, family historians will face some real challenges in attempts to obtain birth records, even on long- deceased individuals. Specifically, what genealogists need to do is suggest to their lawmakers the addition of Sec. 3061(b)(1)(A)(iii) that would read: "who is alive on the date that access to their birth certificate is requested." This addition would clarify that the legislation (soon to be law) applies ONLY to birth certificates of CURRENTLY LIVING PERSONS. If you do not know your U.S. Senator's e-mail address, you can find it at http://www.senate.gov/ This bill can be found online at http://thomas.loc.gov/ Put in S.2845 (in the bill number window) and then select item No. 3; and go to Subtitle B--Identity Management Security; Chapter 2--Improved Security for Birth Certificates.

    3. Hi Velma, Writing you to let you know we are forming a non-profit corporation that will be based somewhere near Manchester, Ky. The corporation will be set up to research and fund various projects related to Colonel Ben Caudill. But the corporation is broad enough to include all family lines related or corrected to Caudill. I would like to ask you, since I know you travel to Ky if you would be interested in serving on the Advisory Board of this corporation. If you are, I can send you a packet of information on what we have done so far. We hope to have the corporation up and running by early April. Hope to hear from you soon. 3. Hi Lynda, If you would like to do them on one page do not use the automated forms. Create a .txt file and e-mail it to me and I will add it to the page that way. I also recieved a message saying some of your e-mails were being bounced back due to a spam blocked. I do not use a spam blocker. The problem would be with your domain name and road runner. I know that this is not the correct format to be trying to figure out this problem but if you had a message come back I would like to see what it said in order to figure the problem out. If you could send it through the list for me to see.
