Some of you may have already gotten this info, but just in case you haven't (and it DOES bear repeating), here's the info again. If you receive this virus (or any other), please DO NOT send the info (including the "sender's" email address) to the list. Send the info to me directly, instead. Please be careful, as this one not only grabs your address book, it sends itself to authors of unread messages in your mail box, and in addition, eats your program files, your anti-virus and firewall programs, and opens a back door into your computer. BE CAREFUL what you open! Here we go again! The latest (worm) virus, following on the heels of BadTrans II, is called "Goner." It was escalated yesterday from a level 2 to 4 by Norton. I use Norton "Live Update" to dial in everyday at 10 to get the latest updates, and by 7:00 another update was available. I'm sure MacAfee operates in a similar fashion. So... PLEASE ensure that you update your antivirus protection today to protect (hopefully) again the latest. My recommendation is to schedule your software to update DAILY! I would be glad to help anyone do this if you have questions. Keep in mind that no anti-virus software can catch 100% of everything -- this latest worm actually tries to "attack" the anti-virus software to escape detection -- however we should do our best to protect others from unintentional spread of viruses. Remember to not open attachments unless you are positive of what they are. Here's the Norton write up: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.goner.a@mm.html For those who don't want to go to the Norton site (or can't get to it), here's the down 'n dirty of what to eyeball! Any, I said *ANY* email which arrives in your box with a Subject Line that just says: "Hi" Dead giveaway, that. Inside the message you'll find this . . . "How are you ? When I saw this screen saver, I immediately thought about you I am in a harry, I promise you will love it!" The attachment is . . . gone.scr or g o n e r.scr (spaces added so the anti-virus software doesn't eat this message) Browse around that URL. There is a link to today ZDNet which is a must read. Direct Link to article is: http://msn.zdnet.com/zdfeeds/msncobrand/reviews/0%2C13828%2C2825281-hud00025 ab%2C00.html Repeat after me, "I will keep watch. I will keep watch. I will keep watch." Please feel free to contact me directly with questions to minimize virus discussions on this list.
