Pratt MD, age 47, formerly of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at 12:30 A.M. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. He was born in Ashland, KY on March 10, 1957, the son of Carlos and Nancy (Henderson) Pratt. Stephen was a 1975 graduate of Taft High School, Hamilton, Ohio and a 1979 graduate of Vanderbilt University where he majored in Molecular Biology. On October 12, 1985 in Nashville, TN he was married to Leona Maitland. A graduate of Vanderbilt School of Medicine, Dr. Pratt trained in general surgery at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He served a fellowship in plastic surgery at the renowned Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, New York University Hospital-Bellevue Hospital in New York City. In 1987, he completed a two-year clinical research fellowship in burn reconstruction at the Brooke Army Burn Unit in San Antonio, Texas. In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Pratt contributed to a number of research and medical publications including the New England Journal of Medicine; Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics; Journal of Urology; and U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research reports. He was licensed to practice in both Tennessee and New York. He was a Fellow of American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, Association for Academic Surgery, Southern Medical Association, Tennessee Medical Association and Nashville Academy of Medicine. Dr. Pratt donated two or three weeks a year working with Operation Smile. Teams of highly specialized medical volunteers who have transformed the lives of indigent children here and abroad as they offer their time, tools and skills to provide reconstructive surgery and related health care to those who suffer the shame and humiliation of facial and other debilitating deformities. A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 18 years, Leona Pratt; two daughters, Lindsay and Caroline Pratt of Nashville, TN; his father and mother, Carlos and Nancy Pratt of Hamilton, Ohio; sister, Rebecca A. Pratt of Hamilton, Ohio and brother, Dan R. Pratt of Oxford, Ohio; aunt & uncle, Darlene and Richard Allen of Ashland, KY; uncle & aunt, Jerry and Carlene Henderson of Ashland, KY; uncle & aunt, Henry and Sue Pratt of Tucson, AZ, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carlos and Clara Pratt, Oscar and Gwendolyn Henderson and uncle, William Henderson. A memorial service will be held at the Christ Church Cathedral, 900 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203 on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at 9:00 A.M.
