To the north and down below Heflin Heights, at the intersection of 13th Street (US route 60) and Oakview Road, was a crowded group of homes known as Avondale. This land was owned by the Kimbler family. Rev. Kimbler was a Holiness minister and I believe the church was located on top of the hill on Route 60 near the edge of town...just past where Blazer High School is now located. Avondale was a fairly poor area with very small homes. It was located where the Ashland Tennis facility is now located. There was a narrow road off Route 60 that enter the area, just about a block up (west) from Oakview. Just a few hundred yards north of our home was the Kimbler family graveyard. Three were buried there: Martha Collins Kimbler Back, George Scott Kimbler and Ruth Kimbler. When the Community College was built, these graves were moved to the Ashland Cemetery. This according to an oral interview with their descendant, Stephen P. Justice. Regards, Cap'n Dan
