Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XAB.2ACI/2287.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Mychelle, There were several Alifair Derifields but the one you asked about looks like she is a daughter of David Derifield b. abt 1838 of Lawrence Co. KY. The 1870 census shows a 2 yr old Alifair in the household and the 1880 census shows her as Allifair, age 12. I'm not 100 % sure this is the same Alifair but I think so. I just mainly want to give you the later info. There is some info. on David's parents and his brother's family in "The History of Lawrence Co. KY." One of the compilers of the bk. is related to the Derifield family. David's father is buried over in Wayne Co. WV. The info. refers to a Derifield family history done by Wm. Derifield of Washington State. You are probably aware of this. The 1900 Lawrence Co. census for Cat Precinct E.D. 79 shows at #79, 79 RICE, David b. May 1842 age 57 married 14 yrs. b. OH parents b. OH no occupation BURTON, Jay son 14 b. KY father parents b. KY no occupation and did not attend school in the previous yr. I could not find Alifair in the 1930 census or in the KY Death Index (did not check the cemetery listings on line at the Boyd Co. Lib. website) but I did find her son Jay Burton living with sister (or half-sister) Lula in Catlettsburg. He had evidently married around 1926 but was not living with his wife. Bear in mind that the Depression was on and he was unemployed so there could be a variety of reasons for that. 1930 KY census Boyd Co. Catlettsburg Ward 4 #80, 84 HALE, John 35 married at 23 b.
