WHO: All descendants of William and Abigail, and their friends and neighbors WHAT: Dedication of Memorial Stone for William and Abigail Pennington WHEN: 2:00 p.m., May 29, 2005 WHERE: Webbville Cemetery, Webbville, Lawrence County, Kentucky A new memorial to Lawrence County, Kentucky pioneers WILLIAM PENNINGTON (1765-1844) and his wife ABIGAIL CAUDILL PENNINGTON (1767-after 1860) will be unveiled at a dedication ceremony in Webbville, Kentucky, on Sunday, May 29, 2005 at 2:00 p.m., according to members of the committee who raised funds for the marker. For descendant Eleanor McDavid Brewster, this is a DREAM FULFILLED. Brewster, who is organizing the dedication, plans to present some of the history of this couple during the ceremony. William and Abigail Pennington were the forebears of many who descend from families in Lawrence County, Kentucky. Commissioned by the Harlan County, Kentucky United Baptist Church, they came to the area in 1832, with their daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law JAMES WEBB, to found a church. William came as a Deacon and James Webb as a Lay Elder who served as the minister or preacher. Several of William and Abigail's twelve children joined them in Lawrence County: Abel and Elizabeth Pennington, Rebekah Pennington, John W. and Rachel Pennington, James W. and Ellender Pennington, William N. and Delilah Pennington, Alford and Mary Pennington, Elijah and Elizabeth Pennington, Elisha and Nancy Pennington. Descendants of William and Abigail Caudill Pennington literally number in the thousands, and are spread from coast to coast -- and can even be found in Alaska and Hawaii! Contributions from many descendants made it possible to place a new Memorial Stone on their gravesite. Heading up the drive for contributions was Eleanor McDavid Brewster of Willard, Kentucky, Paul Pennington of Georgia, Pat Starzer of Oklahoma, and Frankie Perry of Alaska. Thomas Adkins and Randa LeBrun of Ohio assisted with the completion of the project. Cox Monument Company of Morehead, Kentucky prepared and placed the stone.
