    1. "Ashland"-150 Years ago
    2. Mark Meinhart
    3. Levi Hampton Names New Town Since the railroad company considered the proposi- tion at Poage Setlement too atrractive to decline and the railroad definitely was coming, leading men de- cided that the word "Settlement" was hardly a fitting name for a thriving community. One night in 1854, a meeting was held and Levi Hampton offered the suggestion that Poage Settlement be called "Ashland". Hampton had been a close friend and lifelong admirer of Henry Clay, and both of them had spent some pleasant times on Clay's farm near Lexington, which the Kentucky statesman had called "Ashland". The proposal was accepted unanimously and the village of Poage Settlement had become the town of Ashland. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 1. Brown--Alley
    2. F. K Brown
    3. I am looking for information on the Brown and Alley families who came into Boyd County around 1850. Have been told that several of the family members are buried on the Homer Brown farm lands. Have looked through the "normal" cemetery listings on the Boyd County website but haven't been able to see their names so it might not be considered a cemetery and thus not listed. Was wondering if anyone might be familiar with the name Homer Brown or where there might be other Browns buried in the Boyd County area that the site might be considered a "private burial ground" and not a cemetery. Any help on the Brown/Alley surnames would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the Web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER!
