Still have about 10 requests to go, but I've made you wait long enough. I will start posting again on a daily basis for now. I will be going through the whole class of 1965 for Boyd Cty. H.S., not just the Seniors. I think some of you will be in this Yearbook, since it isn't very old :) I will be donating it to the Boyd Cty Library when I'm done with it, so make your requests as I post them. Also, always check the webpage for updates. I do update items that I don't post, but if there is something significant I want you to know about, it will be on the Index. Hi! I thought that it might be helpful to share this with the group. Here's a link to a map of the spot where Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky come together. It shows county names and community names in all three. I frequently have had ancestors who migrated over state lines, crossed the river, and moved to the next county, but the map shows just how close all of these places are. I hope that it will help someone else too. http://www.herald-dispatch.com/communities/index.html - Jean Griesan Colorado

His wife, my great-grandmother, was Sara Adelaide (sp?) Brown of Catlettsburg, born in the late 1800's. I would be very interested in your findings if you have time to share. She had two sisters that I recall, Cora and Grace, and there are a few living relatives from whom I could gather additional information.

O. Daniels, Center street, gathered at the First Christian Church yesterday to pay a last tribute to the memory of a beautiful christian life. Mrs. Hagaman had attained the age of 80 years when death summoned her. The impressive service at the church was in charge of Rev. F. M. Stambaugh, pastor who brought a beautiful message of condolence to those who were deprived of their mother on the day preceding Mother's Day. Four songs, "In the Land Where They Never Grow Old," "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," "Death is Only a Dream" and "Nearer My God To Thee," all favorites of the deceased were sung by the choir of the church of which Mrs. Hagaman was a charter member. Pallbearers were Dr. K. H. Justice, C. L. Hudgins, H. C. Strait, Orlando Shay and J. C. Hager all of Catlettsburg and J. S. Martin of Ashland. The flower laden cas! ket was taken to the Crawford cemetery near Chesapeake, Ohio, where burial occurred. Mrs. Hagaman is survived by one daughter Mrs. J. O. Daniels of 2202 Center street, Catlettsburg, and two sons James of North Kenova, O., and Harry of Vanceburg, Ky. Ashland (Ky.) Daily Independent, May 10, 1932

Today - Services at Condit School South Ashland - The funeral of Mr. Oliver Chadwick who was murdered by hold-up men Wednesday night, will be conducted from the Condit school at South Ashland at 2 P. M. Sunday afternoon. The reason for holding the services in the school auditorium is that the Church there is undergoing repairs. Services will be conducted by Rev. Overley, Rev. Clark, and Rev. Spencer, with burial following in the Ashland cemetery. There never has been a cold-blooded murder committed in this section which has aroused the people more than this one. Mr. Chadwick was well known in Ashland, was an upright, honest, hard-working man, and straightforward citizen. He was loved and respected by every man who knew him. His character is recognized by the manner in which the working men of the city rallied to the support of the distressed family. The fund which The Independent started for the aid of this family is growing rapidly and is ! being contributed to by people from all walks of life. We trust those who have not contributed, will do so at an early date. The funeral, Sunday afternoon, will doubtless be one of the largest ever witnessed in this city. Ashland (Ky.) Teresa, Thanks for this information on Fannin Cemetery. I didn't find who I was looking for, but I did find one of her sisters in Fannin Cemetery - Bear Creek. Specifically, I am looking for lookups on these people: 1. Madora (or Medora) E. (Layne) Burns, born about June 1855, died on May 10, 1932, buried in Fannin Cemetery. I'm guessing that since her sister was buried in Fannin, Bear Creek, that maybe she is there too. Madora had several grandchildren with the last name of Fannin. 2. James Perry Layne, born about December 1859, died on February 20, 1934, buried in Hazlett Cemetery. 3. George W. Layne, born about 1865 (or August 1874?), died on September 8, 1930, buried in Rose Hill Burial Park. I keep hoping to find several other Layne siblings that I suspect died in early childhood in one of the cemeteries with the others, but I can't seem to find them. They are: 4. Julia B. (Layne) Chadwick, born about 1857 (or March 1866), died before 1930. 5. Arcilla (Arcira) Layne, born about 1862, home in 1880, not home in 1900, died before 1930. 6. Emma L. Layne, born about 1869 (or September 1878), home in 1910, died before 1930. Thanks for any help. If anyone can help me locate ANN HORTON MEFFORD, or her family, I would be most delighted! Ann had posted to the GREEN List, back in 2000, that she was a descendant of Thomas GREEN (1820-1896) and Jemima BROWN. She posted further, that she was the granddaughter of James Knox Polk Horton, and daughter of Clyde Rice HORTON. In 2000, she lived near Carter County and spoke of Grayson Lake. I also descend from Thomas GREEN and Jemima BROWN, and am interested in making contact with her, or with some of her family. Perhaps someone on this line can tell me how the GREEN family connects to the HORTON family. Thank you for any leads you can give me! Frankie Perry
Hi! I obtained some obituaries from the Ashland Library, and I notice that several of the people featured in the obituaries are buried in some cemeteries that are not online. Would anyone have cemetery listings for the following cemeteries? I would only need one or two people from each cemetery, and I have the dates of death. Here are the cemeteries in question: Fannin Cemetery (I notice that there are several listed online, but I don't know which one was specified in the obituary) Hazlett Cemetery Rose Hill Burial Park Thanks very much! - Jean Griesan Colorado

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XAB.2ACI/2460.1 Message Board Post: Addie, Our family lived on the farm, where the Ashland Community College is now located. To the north and down below Heflin Heights, at the intersection of 13th Street (US route 60) and Oakview Road, was a crowded group of homes known as Avondale. This land was owned by the Kimbler family. Rev. Kimbler was a Holiness minister and I believe the church was located on top of the hill on Route 60 near the edge of town...just past where Blazer High School is now located. Avondale was a fairly poor area with very small homes. It was located where the Ashland Tennis facility is now located. There was a narrow road off Route 60 that enter the area, just about a block up (west) from Oakview. Just a few hundred yards north of our home was the Kimbler family graveyard. Three were buried there: Martha Collins Kimbler Back, George Scott Kimbler and Ruth Kimbler. When the Community College was built, these graves were moved to the Ashland Cemetery. This according to an oral interview with their descendant, Stephen P. Justice. Regards, Cap'n Dan
