Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XAB.2ACI/2477.1 Message Board Post: The 1910 Boyd Co. census Durbin E.D. 16 shows a Homer Cyrus, age 5 mos., with Arthur Cyrus, 28, and Lula, 23. Arthur and Lula have been married 3 yrs. and it is Lula's first marriage and Arthur's second. Besides Homer, Lula and Arthur have a son Earl, 3. There is also a daughter Pearl, 5, who is evidently from Arthur's first marriage. Also in the household are Arthur's parents Henry S. Cyrus, 53, and Ellen Cyrus, 43, and a cousin Walter Hazlett. The 1920 Boyd Co. census Durbin Precinct shows Homer Cyrus, age 10, son of Arthur Cyrus, 38, and Lula, 33. Lula Cyrus died shortly thereafter 28 Feb 1920 at age 33 according to the KY Death Index. Other children of Arthur and Lula are Earl, 12 in 1920, Carl, 6, in 1920, and Ruby 5 mos. old in 1920. Arthur's widowed mother Ellen Daniels Cyrus, 73, was living about 3 farms away with a couple of other Cyrus farms in between in 1920. By 1930 Arthur, now 47, has remarried to Goldie, 44, and they have moved from the farm in Durbin to Catlettsburg and are living on Race St. Living with them are Homer, 21, Carl, 17, Ruby, 11, Francis Hatlen (hard to read in the census), 19, and Catherine Hatlen, 11. Francis and Catherine are listed as Arthur's step-sons. Arthur was a laborer in a cement plant and Homer was a laborer in the sheet mill. Arthur died 9 Mar 1953 in Wayne Co. WV where he was born in Jan 1883. Arthur was the son of Henry Cyrus b. Feb 1850 and Ellen Daniels b. Sep 1846. Henry and Ellen were living in the Butler district of Wayne Co. WV on the 1900 census.

There appears to be 2 Brown families in Catlettsburg and I have never been able to connect the 2 lines into one. I haven't responded until now because I sent your email along to another Brown researcher that I had met during my search who thought her family had gone to live in the Indian Nation back in the 1800s but as of today I haven't received a reply. Maybe she responded directly to you. I will keep your family information and should I could across any information I will let you know. Do you have any other names to share that I might use to make a connection?

I am from the long lost Flatt's of Tampa Florida. It seems Grandpa Norvel planted some Flatt's down there. Ha Ha. I currently live in NC outside Raleigh. Would you believe the only thing I know about my Flatt family is that Norvel's Dad's name was Ben Flatt. I found that from a 1920 census. But I know nothing about him or anyone else. Have never seen pictures. I have seen pictures of Norvel but he died a year before I was born. Norvel had a son in Tampa named Curtis with Rose Griffith and Curtis had a son. Me!
Hi! I am looking for a marriage, probably in Boyd County, for a woman who in the census shows up as Arcilla and Arcira Layne. I have found a descendant of hers, and she said that her name was Clarissa. This woman is a direct descendant, so there must be a marriage and at least one child. Clarissa (Arcilla) Layne was born in Ohio about 1862. She was the daughter of William F. and Susan M. (Stewart) Layne. The family moved from Lawrence County, Ohio to Boyd County in 1869. She was with the family in the 1880 census, and then she is not with the family in 1900. The family members mostly stayed in Boyd County or the surrounding area until their deaths. Can anyone dig up a marriage for her? I'll entertain all kinds of name variations. :) Thanks for any help! - Jean Griesan Snowy Colorado
