    3. Ely's Big Sandy Valley bk. is available in paperback, a reprint done by Heritage Books. The list price is $37.50 and you can buy it directly from Heritgage, but I saw it available from a bookstore in North Carolina for $33.50. (I did a google search for Ely and "Big Sandy Valley" and price.) Herma Thank you for the Big Sandy information---it is just "chucked" full of good information. I found quite a bit on my main surnames --Brown & Bartram;however, there are lots of surnames that we have married into that I would like to review too but this process of uploading each section takes quite a long time and then to read all of it made me wonder if the Boyd County Genealogical Society has already done or plans to copy this book and sell it. I think it would be a great additon to anyone who is from Boyd County's research library. Your websiteis a great access to anyone who is researching Boyd County names. THANK YOU AGAIN for being there and helping us who live far away to research our family lines. F.K. Brown

    3. Hello Friends and Relatives, Just to let you know that Hunter's Homepage has moved. Switchboard, which has been hosting his Homepage for the last six years for free is quitting in the next day or two. With the help of a friend I downloaded his current webpage and put it back up on my Yahoo- GeoCities Webpage. I have been learning to edit html the last 1/2 year so I will be able to add a few things that were not standard on the webpage before. I just added 3 pictures from yesterday that Marcie sent me. So change your bookmarks if you visit his site. 2. Mark Meinhart
    3. I sent this out yesterday and I don't believe it came across. So here it is again. --------------- Boyd Researcher's, I added another book to the Boyd County Webpage. Harman's Station by William Elsey Connelley. Eastern Kentucky papers : the founding of Harman's Station : with an account of the Indian captivity of Mrs. Jennie Wiley and the exploration and settlement of the Big Sandy Valley in the Virginias and Kentucky-1910 I added this book for two reasons. Again it covers some of the Big Sandy Valley area, which includes Boyd County. I saw many Boyd Names in the Index (Starting to recoginize a few) like the Rice's, Connelly's, Wiley's and many others. There are about 20 pages of Indexed Names in this book. You can see the Index and Books in the General Section at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyboyd/general/general.htm The Index, JPG(Picture Version) is a little fuzzy (Due to Conversions) You can pick the Index PDF Version and it is very clear and/or the Boyd County Webpage at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyboyd/ (Click the General Button on the Bottom) Again you can view, print, download for personal use only. Hope you find what you are looking for, Mark Meinhart (Boyd Count C.C.) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Messenger. http://messenger.yahoo.com/

    2. One of the first thoughts that comes to my mind is this -- I know how many accounts I have that use my mother's maiden name as proof that it's me they're talking to. What's the easiest way to get someone's mother's maiden name?!! In a message dated 6/5/2004 2:03:06 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: My question, if all I mentioned is a name, no statistics-period on a living person, how can you get someone ID through identity theft? If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a soldier.

    2. Kathy
    3. Mark: What kind of information can you find with only someone's name? How often have you found a link in your family tree with only the parents names? It isnt hard to guess a birth year from the pattern of other children being born to a couple. It seems to me, that if someone was persistant enough and was willing to spend the money, they would/could sooner or later get a birth certificate of the person you had listed, even without any other information. We don't have the criminal mind it takes to do something like stealing someone's ID, but there are plenty of people out there that do. I have read cases in the newspapers about people making a "living" doing that sort of thing! What sickos. I always leave it up to a family member whether to be included or not. Afterall, the web viewers may not get to know their name, but I have everything in my gedcom file, and to me, that's what counts. 3. Does anyone know if there is "HARDESTY BOOK" for Boyd County? If so could someone do a look up for me and see if there is any mention of any Browns? I know that Isham Brown born in abt 1827 and Levista Brown (married John L. Wilcox) born abt 1832 were siblings but am trying to connect them with the following: Henry Brown born about 1823 Peter Brown born about 1829 Wesley Brown born about 1825 George Brown born about 1822 All of the above are listed in the 1870 Boyd County Census as having been born in VA. There is also a William R. Brown born in abt. 1792--could he be the father or uncle of the above named? Don't live in Boyd County area so any assistance with my research would be greatly appreciated.
