Hi Sue, William Wingate is my ancestor as well! His daughter, Rebecca, married a McNeely! I have also had difficulty finding his parents! Maybe they are with the McNeely’s, who are also elusive!!!! I was unaware of the Wingate book, so you are ahead of me! Let me know how I can help! Debbie Sent from Windows Mail From: Sue Russell via Sent: Monday, April 20, 2015 7:12 PM To: Boone County mailing list Cc: ***** In this book, HISTORY OF THE WINGATE FAMILY, by Charles E. L. Wingate, published in 1886, there is a letter from R. F. Wingate about his ancestry. R. F. Wingate was born in Boone County, KY in 1822. He says that his grandfather Wingate (no first name) lived on or near the eastern shore of Maryland and was a wagon master in the Revolution. His oldest son was John. The letter states: "Father (John Wingate) first settled in Hamilton, Ohio, and removed thence to Cincinnati, and kept the first hotel ever established in that city, from which place he went in the War of 1812 as Brigadier General under Gen. Harrison and served during that war. Sometime after the close of the War of 1812 he removed to Bigbone Springs or Blue Lick, Boone County, Kentucky, where he built a very large house as a place of resort and also had a trading post with the Indians, removed thence to a farm on the Ohio river, and after several removals finally located in Illinois, Gallatin County." My 4th great grandfather was William Wingate, born about 1774 in Delaware, had his first child in 1805 in Queen Anne's County, Maryland, and migrated to Boone County, Kentucky about 1818. Family legend says that he was a general in the War of 1812. The only information I can find about his military history is that he was a private during the British Invasion of Maryland, 1812-1815 35th Regt. (captain was Noah Merchant, William's brother-in-law) I think that the family legend could have confused William with John. Since they both migrated to Boone County, KY about the same time, they could have been related. I have been unable to find William Wingate's parents. His wife was Sarah Chase, daughter of William and Rebecca Chase. The Wingates (William & Sarah) are well documented in Boone County. If anyone can find a link between John and William Wingate, or the ancestry of either, I would greatly appreciate it. Dorothy Pieper has an obit on microfilm at the Kenton Co. Library, &a Catharine Bill has a Death Certificate, also on film there, but the DC for her lists death as 1921 rather than 1925, so it may not be the right person. These sources could list the place of burial. Bernard Simon has a DC, but you would have to send away for it, as the library only has them up to about 1964. I have reason to believe that he may be either of Boone, or Loxstone heritage, out of Hillsdale Co, Mi. The reason that I think there is a connection is that he has a most uncanny resemblance to my father, who was a descendant of these two families from that county. I think this is post Civil War. Does anyone from one of the Boone or Loxstone families have any idea if this may be one of the two families? The lady who had them in her possession lived in Pottsford, which is very near where these two families lived. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. (Angleton) Welge: is Prudence Peak a Native American Princess? And if so, what tribe? I'm asking as Mary Windsor married William Penn Angleton, had Christopher Angleton who married Nancy Horton, and they had James W. Angleton who married Nancy Jane Mason. Their child (James and Nancy) was James W Angleton and married Margaret "Maggie" Dell Alexander. James and Maggie had my great grandfather William Bryan Angleton, Sr. and he married Edna Vida Nuckolls. Lois is one of the three childen of William Bryan and Edna. We're wanting to see if Prudence (Peak) Windsor is Native American and the tribe name. It would be interesting if what she believes is right or not. If it's not it's fine. I just wondered if the information was there or not. Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
