    3. I live in Harlan, KY which is about 45 miles from Middlesboro. Walmart did replace their old building with a super center Walmart a few years ago, but I did not hear anything about them moving a cemetery to expand. They moved farther toward the back of their lot to build the new store. I was in Middlesboro about 3 weeks ago and noticed that there is a new little shopping center on the hillside where the cemetery is located. I was wondering if they had moved some of the graves from there. Seems to me that there were graves almost to the road where the stores are now loacted. I would think that this is where graves have been moved to make way for this place. 3. You would think they would let the families know if graves have been moved wouldn't you. I have an uncle in Middlesboro and the last time it was mentioned that the graves couldn't be found, he didn't know anything. That was 3 or 4 years ago. 3. Most states have very strict laws concerning cemeterys and whether they can be moved. If it is an older cemetery there is, quite often, nothing left to move. I've heard several times about Wal Mart building on a cemetery. It's.99% of the time, an urban legend. These businesses normally are required to make sure there isn't a known cemetery in the particular location. 3. The graves were relocated at the bottom of Green Hills years ago when the mobile home place moved in. Since then it has been home to other things. I do not know where the graves were moved to. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Penny" <penny@harlanonline.net> To: <KYBELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 21, 2005 11:03 PM Subject: Re: [KYBELL] Cemetery moved >I live in Harlan, KY which is about 45 miles from Middlesboro. 3. The graves were moved to the top of the hill at Green Hill . I think a new area was made and the stones and graves were moved all at once after the families approval. There were two or three graves that stayed with a chain link fence placed around them...for several years until the new road caused them to be moved. One even had a tall flag poll with the American flag. One was on the edge of the new road that was added with the new Wal-Mart. The office for the Cemetery Green Hills Memorial Gardens is on site off of Highway 441 and US 25-E. Also check out the BELL CO webpage.. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kybell/index.html
