Debbie Debbie, I don't know if you know this or not, but some larger libraries have Heritage Quest and you can get a card and access the Heritage Quest census records free from your home computer. If you live in or close to a large city, you might want to call them and see if they have Heritage Quest. Also the 1880 Census is online at familysearch.org and it is free. RESPONSE: Yes, it is rather expensive. That is why I feel that those who are in a position to help others need to do it without any fees attached. For me it is not a matter of whether or not I am related, it is simply that the person made a public posting on a Message Board or a Mail List and I have the belief I can provide some help. I prefer public postings because then the information will be there in the future to help someone else. There are many others who do the very same thing I do. People help in all sorts of ways as they are able and as their time permits. Everyone has different family budget concerns from those on limited fixed incomes to those raising families or helping to raise their grandchildren to those like myself who are now retired and who have no children. All sorts of situations exist. What is important is we do all we can to keep genealogy free or as free as we can and we can only do that with the everyone's help . Then no one is left out. I have checked some VA sites and Harlan sites but for the most part Bell. Thank you. -----Original Message----- From: Joycetcollins@cs.com [mailto:Joycetcollins@cs.com] Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2005 3:12 PM To: KYBELL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KYBELL] Hendrickson RESPONSE: It is good to familiarize yourself with the county formations in KY and the formation of the KY counties from VA. There are links to this information on several of the southeastern Co. main web sites such as Harlan, Bell and I also think Knox Co. In any case, Bell was not formed iuntil1868 from parts of Knox and Harlan Co. (So people who were in either Harlan or Knox Co. often show up later on in Bell Co.) Harlan Co. was formed in 1819 from part of Knox Co. Knox Co. was formed in abt. 1800 and I forget exactly from which counties. But, this is all the same family. Joyce C.
