RESPONSE: Hello, Bell Co. was not formed until 1868 with the 1870 census being its first. Harlan Co. was formed in 1819 from parts of Knox Co. so I am not quite sure where, at least, Samuel SIMPSON b. 1800 would have been. Could have been Knox. RESPONSE: I wanted to publicly thank Charlotte for all her hard work in obtaining and posting her death certificates. Through her efforts in posting the death certs for a Sarah TAYLOR BAKER and a George Harvey TAYLOR, I was able to locate ONE MORE child born outside of marriage of my g-grandfather, Harrison TAYLOR b. 1836; d. 1904. This would be Sarah TAYLOR BAKER born to an Arta/Artie SIMPSON, dau. of Andrew and Sarah BROCK SIMPSON of Harlan, Clay and Leslie Co., KY. On the 1870 Clay Co., this Sarah shows as a small child in the household of Andy SiMPSON with dau., Art/Arta/Artie SIMPSON living in that household. I already knew of another child who Harrison TAYLOR fathered who was Hannah SIMPSON, born to the sister of Arta SiMPSON who was Rebecca SIMPSON. If anyone has further information regarding this Sarah TAYLOR born to Arta SiMPSON, I would certainly like to know about it. As of the 1880 Leslie Co., Arta doesn't appear (so far as I can see in that county). The rest of Andy's family is there. Rebecca is in Bell Co. as of 1900. I believe another dau of Andy SIMPSON., Hannah SIMPSON is also there in Bell Co. as of 1900. Little Hannah SIMPSON born to Rebecca SIMPSON around 1869 will grow up and marry Preston HENDRICKSON b. abt. 1845. Some of her known children were: Bertie, Chester, Joppie, Moscow and Rebecca Jane HENDRICKSON. Now the hunt is on for Sarah SIMPSON who apparently used the surname, TAYLOR, and grew up and married some UNK. BAKER person. The death cert shows her born 3-16-1865 and died 4-15-1943 , buried at Cannon Creek, Bell Co., KY. Informant on the death cert was a : Mrs. Mary SAYLOR. Anyone with information, I would welcome it. The second death cert I recognized was that of George Harvey TAYLOR. I had him in my data base as George TAYLOR-MILLS because he was again born outside of marriage to Isaac "Ike" TAYLOR and Jane MILLS in KNox Co., KY. Isaac TAYLOR was a brother to my g-grandfather and fathered a number of children with this same Jane MILLS as well as some other women besides his wife, Permelia Ann HAMMONS TAYLOR. George Harvey apparently also used the surname, TAYLOR, and when he died in Whitley Co., Corbin, KY, his wife's name was listed as Alabama HENSLEY. Thanks again, Charlotte. Thank you so much Joyce. What is so hard to figure out about them is that in the 1920 census, Joe said that he was born in Alabama. He couldn't make up his mind where he was born. He was my great grandfather. I can trace my great grandmother, Nancy Lane Rice's family back for generations, but his is a big mystery. Charlotte

I'm sure I'm related to Malinda Hoskins who married into the Baughman family, as all the Hoskinses who settled in Bell Co descend from the same family. Grace, Little is known about William & Mary Evans, parents of Cynthia Evans who married William Baughman. It is known that they are a separate Evans family from Jane Evans who "jumped the broomstick" with John Baughman & Cynthia Evans's son, Thomas "Jeff" Jefferson Baughman; Jane and Jeff never did officially marry. William & Mary Evans settled in the Whitley Co/Knox Co section around Greasy Creek and what's now KY state road 92. Members of these two Evans families did end up marrying down through the years, as they lived within a few miles of each other. A descendant of William & Mary Evans and Thomas "Jeff" Jefferson Baughman & Jane Evans has a well researched site that you will find of help: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~deeskindredkorner/Home%20Page.html Regards, Connie ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Crazy Book Lady" <Orders@crazybooklady.com> To: <KYBELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 08, 2005 7:44 PM Subject: [KYBELL] John BAUGHAM/Cynthia EVANS > Hi all - > > It appears as though all of the Rootsweb lists had a hiccup this weekend, > no?
