    2. RESPONSE: Pat, I am not related to the Charles C. TAYLOR you are citing. I actually did have an Uncle Charles/Charley TAYLOR who was a brother to my Uncle Clyde TAYLOR and my Dad but so far as I know my Uncle Charley was something to do with the Board of Education and the Board of Supervisors office and he worked out of the courthouse at Pineville. Uncle Charley's wife, my Aunt Hazel BAKER TAYLOR was a long-time elementary teacher in the Bell Co. schools but I don't have any knowledge of my Uncle Charley actually teaching. 3. Hi Joyce, I remember Ward Chapel being built in the mid-fifties to late fifties. I graduated from Bell Co. High School in 1962 and left thereafter for UK at Lexington, and I remember the school being there a while before then. My husband remembered passing the school to scouting hikes he took in late fifties also, before we started high school. (I was born and raised at the Forks of Straight Creek in Bell County.) I also remember the name Clyde Taylor from the school system. Are you related to Charles C. Taylor who taught at Bell Co. HS in early sixties? I think he was Librarian and lived at Calloway. 3. Hi, I cann't answer your question on Ward Chappel, but I do know that Page Elem. on highway 119 was originally builded in about 1963. They did away with the two room school's house for grades 1 thru 8 that where located with in walking distance for children. I assume that Ward Chapel on 25E was probable builded around the same time frame. I hope this might help. 1. List administrator is Lorraine Newsome, appointed last week
    2. Andrew Billinghurst
    3. Hi KYBELLers, Thanks for your emails, however, this matter was dealt with by me late last week. I had a number of people express an interest in fulfilling the role of list administrator if I orphaned the list. The person to whom I allocated the list on this occasion is Lorraine Newsome, and I will let Lorraine speak about herself to the list. My general way with dealing with these matters if a list is orphaned 1) allocate to a volunteer from the list if there is an interest [Here I had three or four, I forget how many and I am not in front of my mail archive to check] 2) if the administrator for the corresponding message board is a volunteer, they usually get preference [not an issue in this case] 3) if there is a project involvement or burning passion demonstrated by volunteer [here Lorraine was given the gig as she is a county coordinator with one of the projects, similarly for a surname a one-name interest] 4) sharing the load [I don't like monopolies over large areas, eg. having many lists in a geographic area or simply having many many lists will count against you] 5) first in, best dressed (if I cannot find any other criteria for differentiation). [fwiw Lorraine fulfilled this criteria, not that it came to this point] Unfortunately it cannot be something that is voted upon, especially after the fact, as I don't have the time or resources to allocate to such a process. [Remember there is approaching 30k lists and I chase many list admins separated from their lists.] Naturally, early in the process if support is expressed for a person, it can sway a decision as it falls under point 3). As the list has been adopted, this matter is at end from my perspective, though I do thank you for your expressions of enthusiasm and expressions of support for one of your subscribers. Charlotte is obviously well regarded by the subscribers to the list, and I find that encouraging to think what a great supportive list this is. Obviously Charlotte should feel quite chuffed (and I hope my Australian idiom is understandable). I do hope that you are able to support Lorraine in her role. Again, thanks for the interest. 3. I can't figure it out because Straight Creek isn't at the foot of Pine Mtn State Park. There are so many forks in the road on St Creek. There's the one when you first turn in at Dorton Branch. Then, there's the one where the road forks, and you can turn up either Left Fork or Right Fork. The way it's written makes you think that it's pretty close to where you just turn off of 25-E. The church being discussed could no longer be there. 1. Re: [KYBELL] DID YOU KNOW WE HAVE BEEN ABANDONED??

    3. I can't hide my disappointment that Charlotte Miller wasn't named list administrator. She has experience in list administration, strong Bell County ties, has contributed to the list over a long period of time, has a deep love for the area, and a great deal of knowledge due to researching her ancestors who settled in the Bell Co area in the early 1800's. Also, she wanted the list and let Andrew know that when he first started calling for Kelly to respond. It seems that what list members want is being ignored, and in some cases, the focus of lists is being changed, which is against Rootsweb's rules; in fact, that's what happened on the Clay Co list. From what Lorraine has said, she's not going to let the focus of our group change. For that, we can be thankful, and we'll hold her to that, for we were absolutely abandoned for many months. For instance, we, as list members, have told other members how to unsubscribe due to having no list administrator to fulfill that responsibility. Not once that I heard, did anyone ever complain. A member always quietly stepped in to explain how to go about unsubscribing. There has been no instance of flaming, ugliness toward other members, etc. We're not that kind of list, and we expect to be treated the same, for we are close-knit and friendly. We welcome you, Lorraine, to the list we've been running for quite a while and hope that you have lots of ideas to help generate some stimulating conversation relating to genealogy and the history of Bell Co. I'm currently the director of the Bell Co Historical Society Museum and corresponding secretary of the Bell Co Historical Society. Last week, Rutha Jackson and I spent the day w/ Dr Thomas Clark, 102 year old KY state historian; Hal Rogers, congressman; and Jerry Browning, president of the Bell Co Historical Society to discuss making the Cumberland Ford, located in the Narrows in Pineville, a state tourist site. We already have an overlook and a marker built on Poff Hill at Wasioto. Next, we need to purchase the land where the actual ford exists. Our ultimate goal is to connect the overlook via a walkway. The Cumberland Ford is where the Indians, Dr Thos Walker, Daniel Boone, and all the early explorers crossed the Cumberland River when traversing the Wilderness Road. If a certain rock was uncovered by water, they knew it was safe to cross. If you support this idea, and would be interested in sending a short note to Hal Rogers, it would help us a great deal!
