While Darlene Sizemore and I were indexing the 1930 Leslie Co. KY census, we often had difficulty determining the actual names on the forms. To assist in deciphering some of them, we referred to the INDEX TO KY BIRTHS, among other resources, for guidance to given names, etc. Our index presents the names as we saw them on the census forms. The index, available on cd, is a valuable resource for identifying those born after 1911. HOWEVER, a comparison of the index to the 1930 Leslie Co census, shows many of those early births are not included in the index. I do not know if the same is true of all KY counties but can only verify that many children listed on the 1930 Leslie Co. census were not in the index! This is simply to alert you, that when using the birth index, (which is only a source leading to the actual birth certificate), you may not find the person listed for whom you are looking - for many reasons: 1- typographical errors in creating index 2- misreading of actual birth record 3- birth certificate never filed 4- birth certificate never existed. My suggestion is that you search the index under both the mother's maiden name and the child's name, using any variety of spellings. Be aware that even then, although the person existed, the birth may not be listed! Good luck in your family searching! Hermina Brinkmeier (Dayton, OH) Exploring branches of the family tree!

Joyce, Thank you again. I hope that someone knows something about her. Charlotte In a message dated 10/18/02 10:20:45 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > There are at least 5 America HOWARDS I'm aware of but don't know which one > she is. > > Joyce Taylor Collins > La Palma, CA
RESPONSE: While I don't know exactly which America HOWARD she was, it seems more likely she was born closely to the turn of the century that in the mid-1880's. This first America HOWARD listed was b. Oct. 1885 and would have been 35 years old at her marriage in 1920, not that means a heck of a whole lot because she certainly could still have had chldren.. She was the dau. of Daniel G. HOWARD (s/o Michael HOWARD and Rachel HENDRICKSON and he was also married to Judah WILSON) and his wife, Clarinda CHAPPELL (dau. of John and Elizabeth WILSON CHAPPELL and she was also married to a Clayton NAPIER). This particular family also included a Lucy HOWARD, b. April 25, 1872; d. June 22, 1944. Lucy was the 2nd wife of my g-grandfather, Harrison TAYLOR. They married October 6, 1895. Harrison TAYLOR died in 1904. Lucy also had a prior relationship with Elhannon SIZEMORE; married in 1906 to Willis WARREN and in June 1911 married to Sanders L. CARMICAL. She is buried in the cemetery at Pineville. There are at least 5 America HOWARDS I'm aware of but don't know which one she is. Ray, I am not sure, she might be related to him. Thanks, Charlotte
Mary, I don't know how old she was when she married him but I would agree with you that it is probably the first one. I will see what I can find out. Thank you so much. Charlotte

Hello, Does anyone know anything about this America HOWARD? SMITH, Albert to HOWARD, America, Book 28, Page 97 on October 28, 1920 in Bell Co. Thanks, Charlotte Miller
According to a death certificate just obtained on my great grandmother she was buried at the Roselawn Cemetery in Middlesboro. I did find it on USG site. It is in the North end of the city off a highway. Curious if any one has transcribed this. The last 5 certificates I have recieved have been incorrect in the burial locations, according to the pictures so wonderfully taken, and the transcriptions online, so I would like to confirm she is there. Thank you! Regina [email protected]
Don't have her in my database. Have three other America Howards though. When you find out who her folks are, will you please let us all know. Hello Cousins and Bell County researchers, I would like to start a project for Thanksgiving this year. Please read on and chip in. To participate you don't have to be in Bell County or have ever lived there at all. We are all bound together by the fact that our families lived in this little corner of Kentucky and they shared community, tradition, family and friends. Most importantly our ancestors were pioneers who did the best they could with what little they had and they did a fine job too. We can do that now even though we are living all over the world. These Bell County web site pages will be here long after we have passed and I think it would be exciting for our grandchildren, great grandchildren and so on to see our traditions, photo's and read our memories of our own Thanksgiving's. We are in the habit of researching our own pasts but sometimes forget that we should be preserving our current "histories" for the future. Birth, Death and Marriage records are informative but wouldn't you love to see what a Thanksgiving dinner was like with our ancestors? Our future generations will be able to do that! with this project. For this project I would like to make a "Descendants of Bell County Families Thanksgiving 2002" section and place our holiday recipes, family pictures, Thanksgiving memories or family traditions. In my home it is a tradition to make a huge dinner and usually it is the same dinner every year with the family pouring in all day to visit and eat. I think it's probably that way at your house too. If not maybe you join your family in someone else's home. Either way you can share. If you only have one recipe, that's ok we would love to include it. If you would like to email me with your Thanksgiving traditions, photo's or memories we will be thrilled to include those too. Please help us by joining in on this project. I will be posting my own Thanksgiving photo's and recipes and hope you will too. If your a man and you don't usually do the cooking maybe you can ask your wife to share with us. Maybe you could type an email telling us about your Mother's Thanksgiving dinners or your Grandmother's. Maybe you remember Daddy or Grand Daddy preparing the turkey on the farm? Most importantly, let's all chip in and make memories for the future. I will be sharing a copy of the new book "Images of Bell County Kentucky" with the most generous submitter's in this Thanksgiving project. Thank you& May God Bless you all this family season, Kelly & Barb [email protected] Census Lookup Mailing Lists Est. Oct 2000 - Kelly Courtney-Blizzard http://www.rootsweb.com/~censlook/
Hello, Does anyone know anything about Daugherty and Nancy Jane Jackson SMITH'S children, Eller Smith born 1882, Elizabeth Smith, born 1884, Andrew Smith born about 1883, died1926, Adison/Addison Smith born 1886, and Noah Smith born between 1887 and 1890.
