It is a waste of time to ask those people to copy documents for you. They are just very indifferent to the whole idea of Genealogy. They are very generous with letting you stay and search to your hearts content............I even climbed their ladder and got old boxes of fragmented papers from the ceiling shelf.. and no one cared. If you can go there at all do so. One day the old documents will be gone I fear. I think that is what ahs happened to many of them already. >> I am fairly close to Bath County, so have been there many times. I agree about the records. I too have climbed the ladder, crawled under the tables, plundered through boxes, lain on the copier to make sure a page copied. These are the sweetest people in the whole world that work in the Court House. They recognize me when I go in and I have free rein in the Records Room. But I feel over the years people have carried out records and noone noticed. I could have carried out volumes. Those little drawers at the top of the room hold many, many records. It's just a matter of taking time to unfold each little piece of paper. And the paper is getting so fragile I feel guilty about even handling them. I just hope and pray that copies have been made at sometime or another and are stored in the Archives in Frankfort. If not, then the Genealogical Society in Bath should make THAT a priority. (I research in Morgan County quite a bit and it is the same way. I could put those pieces of paper inside my notebook and noone would ever know. I have a copy of a small piece of paper where my 3rd greatgrandfather signed for one of his daughters to marry.) The next time I go to Bath I will copy the Will of Archibald Ramsay and have a look myself. I have recent evidence that we have completely missed a daughter of Thomas and Mary Warwick Cartmill. Margaret, who married Robert Ramsay. We had the marriage for them but couldn't place her in any family. A lady just got in touch with me who has a record that Thomas Cartmill signed for his daughter to marry Robert Ramsay. Thanks, Paula
