Hello everyone, The school record issue about Bath Co., Ky. is something I, myself, had not give a lot ot thought about. A few Kentucky counties still have School Census records (but only a few) & one of them is Nicholas Co., Ky. Having seen these at the County Clerk's office in Carlisle, I found the School Census to be a very valuable tool for genealogical research. The Kentucky Dept. of Libraries and Archives (in Frankfort) has microfilmed some of the school census records (probably the records they found in the various County Clerk's offices throughout the state). They microfilmed the Nicholas County School census which dates from the late 1880's (the school census was began in Kentucky in 1888). Unfortunately, I haven't seen a surviving Bath Co., Ky. school census. Having been to the County Clerk's office in Owingsville many times, I never saw them there. I don't know what records the Bath County Board of Education may have. There is some interesting data in a book by Roseann Reinemuth Hogan entitled KENTUCKY ANCESTRY-A GUIDE TO GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL RESEARCH (published by Ancestry in 1992) about the school censuses (and tells where some of them may be found). This information is on pages 121-122 (where there is about 5 paragraphs about this). Good luck to everyone & if anyone finds out more, could you post it on the Bath Co. mailing list?
