    2. It's been a while since I checked out Edyth Maxey's book and I failed to get my money by the deadline for the reprint a few years back. I do know someone who has the book and will see what she says. I "believe" that she was the first one to cite the whole name Elizabeth Lydde "Lydia" and I thought she got it from Rev. Rene Chastain's marriage list. Apparently that may not be right. The following letter is from a Maxey researcher in 1998 and if anyone is in Bath County the deed to grandchildren by Rane Chastain would be worth looking at. I'll be up there (I'm in Louisiana) the third weekend in July and can check the deed book. I have your Thomas Maxey in my files: He was b. Montgomery Co., KY 10 May1802, m. Sarah Cassity 9 Dec 1824 at Fleming Co., KY, and d. Fleming Co., KYc. 1871. He was buried at Poplar Run. Like his brother Colvit 2 yearsearlier, Thomas was apprenticed to Joseph Kelso in 1818 (Bath Co., KY, Deeds,Bk. B, p.444). He and Sarah spent most of their long married life in BathCo., KY and were located there in the 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860 censuses.Sometime before 1870 they moved to Fleming Co. in the Centerville District. He was a carpenter and in 1870 was employed as a millwright.Thomas (I show him with the middle initial 'W') was the son of Thomas Maxeyand his first wife, Lydia Chastain, (I don't have the date for their marriage, but she died in 1805, shortly after the birth of their 6th child). Thomas wasborn in Buckingham Co., VA 1765. He married Ann Biggs c. 1806. Thomas diedin Montgomery Co., KY 1808 and is buried in Bath Co., KY. He had one child byhis second marriage, but Thomas died before she was born. Some records youmight want to check: Bath Co., KY, Deeds, Bk. B, p.77 is Rane Chastain's deedof gift to his grandchildren; Montgomery Co., KY, Wills, Bk. A, pp.336-337 isThomas's inventory & appraisal of estate, taken 5 May 1808.Thomas was the son of Nathaniel Maxey (6 Jul 1745-c. 1808) who was born inGoochland Co., VA and died in Buckingham Co., VA. Buckingham Co.'s first 110years of records were destroyed by a fire, so some of his records are sketchy. He married twice - to a Ruth E. Ford and 2nd to an Elizabeth.Nathaniel was the son of William Maxey (c. 1706-1768) and his second wifeMary. His first wife was probably Mary Soblet. Check following records: VALand Patents, Bk. 14, pp. 44-45; Goochland Co., VA, Deeds, Bk. 1, p.443;Goochland Co., VA, Deeds, Bk. 1, p. 444; VA Land Patents, Bk. 24, pp. 468-469;Cumberland Co., VA, Deeds, Bk. 1, p.327, Bk. 3, p.24; Cumberland Co., VA,Wills, Bk. 1, pp.356-358; Cumberland Co., VA, Wills, Bk. 2, pp.46-47; - all ofthese records refer to William.William was the son of Edward T. Maxey (c. 1674-1737) who may have been inHenrico Co., VA and died in Goochland Co., VA. He m. Mary Susannah Gates c.1710, probably at Goochland.

    1. [KYBATH] Chastain/Maxey
    2. Elizabeth Lydia Chastain WAS the wife of Thomas Maxey. According to Edith Maxey's book in which she uses Lydia''s father Rev. Rene Chastain's marriage records as supporting evidence Lydde, or Lydia's first name was Elizabeth. Also Raney Maxey's middle name WAS Chastain. 3. Hi Linda: Thanks for posting the URL for your database. I found something I had wrong....had Thomas Maxey's wife as Lydia Chastain instead of Elizabeth Lydia. What do you want to bet that their son, Raney C. Maxey had a middle name of Chastain? Rane and Rene was passed down in our Chastain family clear to Iowa. One time I told my Dad that one of his ancestors was named "Rene" and I guess he thought it was "too" feminine a name as he got a little bent out of shape denying there was ever such a name in his family!!! <grin> I'm going to go back and check for more Buckingham to Bath County names!
