Terri, Where did you find the Kentucky Death Index? Judith in CA [email protected]
Darrell Warner, or anybody else who has access to old Bath Co newspapers: Do you have any obit record for an Amos G. Pettit who died in 1929 or his wife Anna Mae (Reed) Pettit who died in 1973? They are buried in the New Alfrey Cemetery in Rowan County, with only the years on their stones. In 1910 they were living in Hoggtown (Elliottville) in Rowan County, but their last five children were born in Bath County between 1911 and 1923. Neither of them is listed in the Kentucky Death Index, so I am thinking they may have died in another state, perhaps while residing with one of their children, and been returned to Kentucky for burial. Amos G. Pettit is one of my "mystery Pettits". I first find him in the 1900 census, age 16, as a boarder with the family of J. D. Cogswell. Since the 1890 census was destroyed, I have no record of who his parents were. The marriage record says that he was born in Morgan County, but does not mention his parents. I am hoping that his death certificate or obituary will give their names, but have been unable to locate either. For further details, see http://www.best.com/~tpettit/family/pettit/FG03/FG03_101.htm Teri Pettit

Johnny, Polksville is in Bath County, along US-60, about 2 miles west of Salt Lick. It is still there, and is still on detailed maps, but it is a very small community, so would not be on maps that only show real towns. There is a Polksville Cemetery there, where some Williams and Pettits are buried. E.g., see this page: http://www.best.com/~tpettit/family/pettit/FG04/FG04_129.htm Teri Pettit

To Noland family searchers - this article from Madison County KY newsletter also has a lot of history regarding the beginning of churches in KY and ministers sanctioned to perform marriages. Note among the list Thomas Shelton - who practiced in Bath County KY also, and later performed marriages at Aberdeen Ohio - where couples were not required to post a marriage bond. Russell Noland and Zarelda Harper of Bath County KY were married by Squire Thomas Shelton in 1846 .Records indicate he operated a riverboat on the Ohio River, where he performed marriages. Noland marriage is recorded in Brown County Ohio records, at Univ. Ohio. I don't know if this will help. Maybe coming from another angle, but I have a copy of a death certificate of Sarah G. Perry with the informant listed as Green Perry. Easy to read. She died 26 Jan 1929 and was listed as married. Maybe you could trace backwards on this line to find the original Green Perry. The county was Carter, Pleasant Valley. Green Perry listed his address as Olive Hill. What I don't understand is what the "G" is for in Sarah G Perry when her parents are listed as John Robbins and Polly Dyer. Maybe she was married to a Green then remarried a Perry? K

My ggg-gandparents were Elijah Perry and Nancy Snelling Perry of Bath Co. Elijah's father was Lewis of Woodford Co. I have a marriage bond and a permission slip signed by Lewis Perry and Ben Snelling (Nancy's father) for Absalom Perry to marry Elizabeth Snelling. Can anyone tell me the relationship of Absalom Perry to Elijah Perry? Permisson slip dated 5 Jan 1824, bond dated 7 Jan 1824. Thanks
