Is Ruth Nunnely or her daughter on the list? Does anyone know the whereabouts of the SORRELL AND STATON Bible that was owned by someone in her family? I sure would like to see a copy of those pages.
Our Greatgreatgrandfather , Cornelius Weaver, was in BATH CO. KY around 1810. Said he was from VA. This might be a dumb question but was there a particular area of Va. that was migrating to Bath Co. Ky. around 1800? Thanks for any input. Barbara Weaver [email protected]
This is in response to Marty Hunt's recent query re William Bailey and his wife Trenvilla Swetnam (is anyone 100% sure how Trenvilla's name was spelled? Mor importantly, was she a Swetnam, as I believe, or a Swetman? I have been told there were two families in Bath County each with the similar name). I am sharing my response with all listers in case they might have something to contribute or find something of interest. I will use the word "probably" more than I like but much of the old relationships I have been unable to prove--just circumstancial evidence and educated guesses. William Bailey married Trenvilla Swetnam abt 21 Feb 1832 (one of the few "provables" but only to the extent that it was the date of the Permissions Slip--I could not find the bond or return). According to the 1850-70 censuses, William was born about 1804 and Trenvilla abt 1812. Trenvilla's Permission Slip was signed by her father William Swetnam. I suspect that William Bailey's father was Warren Bailey. I strongly suspect that Warren was probably a younger brother of John Bailey, Senior, who was probably the first Bailey to settle in what became Bath County (probably in 1784). At least he was the first Bailey to be a taxpayer (1787). Warren Bailey became a taxpayer abt 1798. Warren Bailey probably married Mary Rice 24 Oct 1798 in Garrard Co., Ky. Their first child was Charles Bailey, born 29 Oct 1799 in Bath County. Charles Bailey married Martha England 15 July 1821. Their eldest son Warren B. Bailey became a judge in Rowan County. Sometime after 1870 Charles Bailey left Bath County for Texas and died there 8 Oct 1890, just a few days short of his 92nd birthday He was buried in Trickham Cemetery, Coleman Co., Texas. Warren and Mary's second child was probably Jefferson Bailey. Charles and Jefferson were named administrators of Warren's estate when he died about July, 1833. Jefferson married Hannah Jones 23 July 1835 and died about two years later (Hannah remarried James R. Wilson 8 Oct 1838). Warren and Mary had at least one daughter. Nancy Bailey was born 18 March 1803. She married Elder Samuel Jones 12 Feb 1828. Back to William and Trenvilla Swetnam Bailey: Their children included: Louann F., born abt 1833; Mary B.,abt 1836 (married George Anderson 10 Nov 1853); Thomas J., abt 1837; Elizabeth, abt 1839; Marcus W., about 1841; Rosalee, abt 1843; Jennett, abt 1845; William W., abt 1857. William Bailey was a relatively prosperous farmer in the White Oak area. He served in the Kentucky House of Representatives for the 1851-52 term. I know very little more about William and Trenvilla's children. Marcus applied for and received a license from the county court to keep a tavern in the late 1860's. The application indicated that he was a merchant in the community of Wyoming. If anyone can add to, or correct, this information about William and Trenvilla Bailey, I know Marty and I would both like to hear about it. Pete Bailey 8080 Dartmouth Rd Indianapolis, IN 45260
Listers.. To those in particular who have written to ask me to look up their families in my book..I want to tell you all that, yes, I have had a lot of folks write me asking for info..but this is what I wanted to happen..this is how we pay back for what others have given to us, its how we learn about our families! I have met some wonderful people these past few days, we have laughed together, we have kidded in our letters, I have had some nice things said about my webpages..and most of all, I think I have made new friends.. I believe all genealogists think that those of us pursuing our family histories are a fine bunch of folks...and that is so true! Keep the cards and letters comin'.. Does any one have anything about William Bailey and Tranvilla Swetman? I would like to have info on them, ancestors, descendants, anything. Thank you. Marty Hunt
Listers, I have received several requests from folks who want copies of ancestors pictures..and I am so pleased that I can help.. I want people to remember that this is a Pictoral (pictures) history of this county..there is not too much written info, except on certain families..there are a lot of pictures of school children all the way from 1898 up to the 1960's and most of these group shots have each child's name listed.. Continue to send me your requests, but I am telling folks that I will have to charge a dollar or so, or take a donation to cover stamps and xeroxing..I hope this is fair as I live out of town, and will take several days to get all the copies done.. I will start next week to do this searching as I had a 3rd granddaughter this morning..Macy Lynn has joined our family, mother and baby doing just fine! Thanks, Roxanne Check out my web pages!! Today I received the gift of a copy of the book, Bath County, KY, A Pictorial History, published in 1998.. I am sure many on this list already have this book, but for those who like me, had not even known this book was printed, or who do not have a copy..I want to offer the following service.. If you are interested in seeing if any of your ancestors are pictured in this book, and might want a copy of that picture, write me a private e-mail and give your family members name and I will look it up.. I want to repay in some way for all the information that I have been given about my Vanlandingham family, and this is my way of doing it..I will have to charge for copying and stamps, but hope this will still benefit someone to be able to add a xerox picture to their collection that they might not otherwise have access to.. Lisa: I have in my list of Bath marriages that Thornton Snelling married Sarah Ellen Gudgell on the 16 Aug, 1870 at the home of Samuel Jones. Don't think you meant that he died on that date given he had children later on! Does anyone on the list have a recent picture of Owingsville, or even an old pic of the area..? My Great Grandfather, Stewart Vanlandingham and his son, my Grandfather George Washington Vanlandingham, were both born there, but I have been on the west coast all my life..I have never seen KY, and although I do hope to someday, I would love to see any scanned pics of Bath County.. My dear friend Harley Barber has sent some of his collection to me, but I wanted to see if any other listers might have interesting info or pics about the area that is part of my history. Thanks, Roxanne Parks Garrett Klamath Falls, Oregon Descendent of Stewart Vanlandingham and Sarah A. Burk Vanlandingham http://community.webtv.net/garretts2/RoxannesHomeontheWeb
