    1. [KYBATH] School records....
    2. I found a article in a Genealogy magazine saying that Ky took a school census starting with 1870 I believe....I called the Bath Co.School board last year and they sent me the record on my Grandfather,Elmore Bailey. He was attending school in Owingsville in 1900...I received a copy that can be used for Birth certificate,,and a copy of the list showing his parent(s)...The school board was nice and I received my copies within a week...I did go straight to the school board and was so happy with the results...Many times this is the only proof of birth there is...Thanks and Happy Hunting Barbara O'Hara...Tyler Texas

    2. I found the School Census Records for Morgan County 1880+ from the LDS libraries. There were some surviving counties listed but I did not find Bath County either.

    3. Hello everyone, The school record issue about Bath Co., Ky. is something I, myself, had not give a lot ot thought about. A few Kentucky counties still have School Census records (but only a few) & one of them is Nicholas Co., Ky. Having seen these at the County Clerk's office in Carlisle, I found the School Census to be a very valuable tool for genealogical research. The Kentucky Dept. of Libraries and Archives (in Frankfort) has microfilmed some of the school census records (probably the records they found in the various County Clerk's offices throughout the state). They microfilmed the Nicholas County School census which dates from the late 1880's (the school census was began in Kentucky in 1888). Unfortunately, I haven't seen a surviving Bath Co., Ky. school census. Having been to the County Clerk's office in Owingsville many times, I never saw them there. I don't know what records the Bath County Board of Education may have. There is some interesting data in a book by Roseann Reinemuth Hogan entitled KENTUCKY ANCESTRY-A GUIDE TO GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL RESEARCH (published by Ancestry in 1992) about the school censuses (and tells where some of them may be found). This information is on pages 121-122 (where there is about 5 paragraphs about this). Good luck to everyone & if anyone finds out more, could you post it on the Bath Co. mailing list? I too have climbed the ladder, crawled under the tables, plundered through boxes, lain on the copier to make sure a page copied. These are the sweetest people in the whole world that work in the Court House. They recognize me when I go in and I have free rein in the Records Room. But I feel over the years people have carried out records and noone noticed. I could have carried out volumes. Those little drawers at the top of the room hold many, many records. It's just a matter of taking time to unfold each little piece of paper. And the paper is getting so fragile I feel guilty about even handling them. I just hope and pray that copies have been made at sometime or another and are stored in the Archives in Frankfort. If not, then the Genealogical Society in Bath should make THAT a priority. (I research in Morgan County quite a bit and it is the same way. I could put those pieces of paper inside my notebook and noone would ever know. I have a copy of a small piece of paper where my 3rd greatgrandfather signed for one of his daughters to marry.) The next time I go to Bath I will copy the Will of Archibald Ramsay and have a look myself. I have recent evidence that we have completely missed a daughter of Thomas and Mary Warwick Cartmill. Margaret, who married Robert Ramsay. We had the marriage for them but couldn't place her in any family. A lady just got in touch with me who has a record that Thomas Cartmill signed for his daughter to marry Robert Ramsay. Thanks, Paula

    3. Hi - There is so much going on this list - maybe somebody out there can help me. I have 2 lines I'm trying to research in the Bath/Fleming Co region and have hit major stumbling blocks. I have an Archibald B. Six md to Elizabeth/Rhoda Crain Robinson in Bath Co 8-10-1858. I have most of their children --but can't figure out parents. I suspect Archibald was the son of David & Sarah Gorman Six listed in Fleming Co 1860 census. A family Bible lists Arch's dob as 5-1-1819 and dod as 9-10-1892 and Elizabeth's dob as 11-25-1837 and dod as 12-19-1899 - but I can't find obits or even where they might be buried. I suspect Atchison Cemetery - but that's only a guess. Elizabeth may have gone by the name "Lizzie" and was married for 3 months to William Eden in 1898. There are 2 Six's buried at Gilstead, David and Rice - any clue who they belong to? Also, an Ada Six md. Woodson R. Graham 2-11-1897. She was d/o Jane Six, Have no idea who these ladies are, but suspect they connect. I also have a Thomas H. Bennett md. To Vianna Johnson 8-28-1849. (Vianna's mother was Elizabeth Trumbo Johnson Snedigar). They seemed to reside in Wyoming, Bath Co until abt 1869 when they moved to IL. One of their sons married one of Archibald & Elizabeth Six's daughters. I cannot find anything on Thomas prior to his marriage to Vianna - have no idea of parents or siblings for him. Death records indicate a dob of 6-9-1810 and that he may have been married in 1840 to another lady. Any clues or directions will be appreciated. Thanks Gayle Swoik
