    3. Fellow Listers: I agree about the lack of care shown the old documents at the court house. I just spoke with my cousin who does live in Bath Co. She feels it is a combination of several things --indifference, no training on the part of court house clerk's staff in proper preservation and MONEY. She recommended we write a "group email" to Carol Belcher, the state representative for the county and express our concerns about the condition of historical documents and the lack of proper preservation attempts. She also mentioned that the LDS church came into Bath county many years ago to film the then existing records and were allowed to do so. The church then gave complimentary copies of all that they had filmed to the clerk and that these films were simply thrown away - for whatever reason! So, I suggest that we, as a group, lobby the appropriate political entities to save the records of Bath county! 1. [KYBATH] Search for Thomas ADAMS Bath County early 1800's
    2. Edwin Jones
    3. Hello Bath County Researchers, I'm still looking for info regarding my 3'rd gr grandparents. Thomas ADAMS marr. Catherine WATSON 1794 in Bourbon County, Ky. They later lived in Bath County where some of thier 11 children were born. I have a marr document from Nicholas County where a son Wm. Watson ADAMS was marr. 1833 to Catherine MANING. Thomas ADAMS signed an attachment to the marr application. It seems Catherine (WATSON) ADAMS was living with her son James ADAMS 1850 in Switzerland County, In. This leads me to believe Thomas died between 1833 & 1850 probably in Bath County. Thomas & Catherine had 11 children, some born in Bath County. I believe both Thomas & Catherine were born in Md. but after 16 years of searching I haven't yet confirmed that. It seems Thomas was probably an orphan because a Ralph ADAMS, (don't know if he was related), signed the marr. bond as being the guardian for Thomas. I would like to hear from anyone having data regarding any of these ADAMS or WATSON people. Thanks in advance for your help. Ed Jones New Palestine, In.

    1. [KYBATH] Some of my Bath County Surnames
    2. Gee! Guess I better be good to myself now, I just realized I haven't gotten even a "Nibble" after over a hundred emails to the list. I kept thinking someone would lay a big HIT on me but it didn't Happen so here is what I need. I want someone to tell me about HANNAH ? b. ca. 1786 SC [according to the 1850 census] who married among others....Augustine McCarty who died in 1820 in Bath Co. KY and Hannah is on the 1820 Census as head of household. In 1830 the Head of house hold is JOHN NORRIS and rightfully so since he and Hannah married 30 Dec., 1829. They are together in 1850 Census and then "Poof" they are gone. Where did they go? When did they die? Where are they buried? Hannah had lots of kids....some McClains and some McCarty's. Are all the kids legitimate? I try to put everyone together in a nice tight marriage situation and I know better than that. I have some of my ancestors from Morgan County who were never married.....of course I know the Bath Countians didn't act like that. However, the answer to this 25 year old mystery would please me very much..........Since Joanne has promised to meet me half way and buy me a steak dinner if we find Hannah....that makes the find a lot sweeter. Now.......Plese do not run off to Rootsweb or FTM or LDS and come back with a contrived name for Hannah...its been tried before......LOL My other surnames from Bath County are: McCullough/McCulley, Basford, Thornburg, Wills, Norris, Rogers, McClain, McCarty, McKenzie,ETAL. As you can see I have a little Scotch/Irish to deal with. I have most of my line on Thornburg other than collateral lines......I really need the old McCulley's [imagine naming a "Hollar or Branch" after a McCulley and no McCulleys there??] There is one in Bath County KY. And the Old Basfords. I am told my John Basford b. ca. 1770 VA married Elizabeth Norris b. ca. 1792 in Mason Co. KY???? I have a few of their children I think. Isaac. b. ca. 1810 m. Mariner McCarty d/o Hannah James b. ca. 1820 m. Mahala McCulley Andrew Jackson "Jack" b. ca. 1824 m. Lucy Ensign Mary A. b. ca. 1830 m. Isaac Reid/Reed Martha A. b. ca. 1832 Now it seems there are too many gaps here so I think there are lots more kids running around. Anyone care to speculate? The McCulley s? On Mahala McCulley Basfords Death Certificate it states she is the daughter of Samuel McCulley..She may be. It states she was born in Pendleton Co. KY.....Maybe so. I am unable to tie any Samuel McCulley to her but someone in the family named a son Samuel Basford? [I do pay attention to the names of the children] I believe that Elizabeth McCulley who married Elisha/Elijah Sorrell 7 Jan. 1840 is related to my Mahala McCulley.b. ca 1842 I am sure there were more McCulley children too. As you can tell I really need help and have been on this list since its inception and no help...... Please let me and the list know if you have something to add to what I have told you. I ahve a list of marriages that I cannot connect to because of the idea Mahala might be the Daughter of Samuel McCulley. Peter McCullough m. Louvina Meris? 17 July 1811 Bath John McCulla m. Sally Staton 17 June 1813 Bath Samuel McCullock m. Elizabeth Mitchell 3 Mch.1797 Elizabeth McCulla m. Elisha Sorrell 7 Jan. 1840 Bath Mary "Polly" McCulla m. Samuel Staton 1830 Elizabeth "Betsy" McCulla m. Wm. R. Sorrell 5-15-1845 Bath Co. Talk to me Pleeeease! Blessings! Vivian
