Very active in civic and community affairs; at present was serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of T J Samson Community Hospital. Also a member and past president of the Glasgow Rotary Clue, a Paul Harris Fellow, former member and chairman of the Glasgow Board of Education, member and former director of the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce. Enjoyed tennis and horses, avid Tennessee Walking horse breeder, served as presidesnt of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders Association.
