In his 1841pension application for service in the 22nd Regiment of United States Infantry in the War of 1812, my GGGGrandfather, John WOOTEN, stated that when he left his home in Cumberland County, Ky. in about 1815, he had "moved to GREEN RIVER; staid (sp) there about three years, lost his wife, and then come to the State of Ohio." I have been told that "Green River probably refers to the Green River. I do not believe so. I do believe that there was once a community called "Green River" somewhere in Southern Kentucky. I have recently found several mentions of "GREEN RIVER" on the KYBARREN mailing list. I hope these listings refer to the "GREEN RIVER" that I am looking for, and that someone on this list can tell me where it is located. Thomas LOGAN - 382 acres vacant land, Green River; CHAPLIN's Militry line, cites also Samuel CUMMINS and ROWNTREE's lines. Samuel REDING, 200 acres, Green River - May 1802. Amos SMITH, 80 acres, Green River, Big Horse Shoe, cites Joseph CRAFFORD. Gambral? COX, 200 acres, Green River. Philip WELLS Jr, 25 Sept 1802, 200 acres, Green River; cites George CLARK.
