    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Isaac, an assumed brother of John, on 21 Dec 1761, Granville to Isaac Wilcoxon 320 acres on HUNTING CREEK and LONG BRANCH. The above post also states: "In 1798, the last of his lands in Rowan County sere sold to his son, William" The following will show that William Wilcoxson who married Nancy Sparks did not own land in Rowan County. This William's property was in WILKES COUNTY on NORTH HUNTING CREEK near the SURRY CO. line adjoining WILLIAM SPARKS (Nancy's father)at one time. North Hunting Creek is in present day Yadkin County, in the Hamptonville area that borders on Iredell Co. Yadkin co. was split from Surry Co.in 1851. This creek is south of Hwy 421 and along Hwy 21 South. Bear Creek is northwest of Salisbury and in present day Davie Co. near Mocksville. Remember, John Granville died in 1763 forcing his land offices to close, consequently, a settler could not obtain a land title between 1763 and 1778 within the Granville area. In 1778, this changed because British land rights ceased during the Revolution. So, we have no way of knowing when the land was actually claimed by the settler from 1763 to 1778 and that's why so many land entries were made in NC in 1778/79. The following are some of William Wilcoxson's land transactions in Wilkes Co., NC: 24 July 1778 Surry Co., NC Thomas Yates 200 a. N. Fork Hunting Creek adjoining William Sparks and William Willcocks. 18 Dec 1778, Wm Wilcocks entered 50 a. south side of branch between James Havel's & Wilcock's HOUSE (Entry #588); 31 Dec 1778, Wm Wilcox entered 300 a. north side HUNTING CREEK including his improvement (entry #674); 1 Mar 1779, Wm entered 100 a. NORTH FORK HUNTING CREEK including his improvement (entry #946); THESE 3 ENTRIES SHOW WILLIAM HAD ALREADY BEEN LIVING ON AND WORKING THIS LAND AS HE HAD A HOUSE AND IMPROVEMENTS. 21 Feb 1780, he entered 100 a. NORTH FORK HUNTING CREEK (entry #1635) WILKES LAND ENTRY BOOK 1778-1781 23 Oct 1782, William Wilcockson received a State Grant for 320 acres on HUNTING CREEK. (Deed bk A-1, pg. 283) 9 Nov 1784, he received a State Grant for 100 a. on HUNTING CREEK adj. Luke Browning and HIS OWN LAND (Deed bk.A-1, pg 467; also, same date, he received a State Grant for an additional 100 acres same location (Deed bk. A-1, pg 469) 23 Jan 1792, William Wilcockson sold 100 a. on waters NORTH FORK HUNTING CREEK (Deek bk B-1, pg 206) 1797 William Wilcoxson bought 150 acres NORTH FORK HUNTING CREEK from Isham Harvil (Deed bk. D, pg 285) Ruth Wilcoxson was a sister-in-law of William Wilcoxson and the widow of Isaac, William's brother, who was chosen as guardian to William, Daniel and Martha in 1771. On 14 Sept. 1787, a Power of Attorney from ruth Wilcockson, of Rowan Co., NC to William Willcockson of Wilkes County to sell land in Wilkes county to Jacob Adams (Will Bk 1 pages 274 & 275); 29 Jan 1788 William Willcockson sold Jacob Adams 243 acres of land south fork Roaring River, waters of Yadkin River. Signed: William Willcockson. (Deed Bk D, pg 401) 17 Apr 1802, Wm Wilcoxson sold 524 acres on HUNTING CREEK for 800 silver dollars (deed bk C-1, pages 396 & 397); 13 Jun 1803, Wm Wilcoxson (for one cent) to Daniel Wilcoxson 24 1/2 acres NORTH HUNTING CREEK (Deed bk F-1, pg 54); on same day Will Wilcoxson (for one cent) to Daniel Wilcoxson 185 a. NORTH HUNTING CREEK (Deed bk F-1, pg 55). It is believed this is near the time Wm. left Wilkes Co., for Green Co. KY. Tax list of 1772 Rowan Co., by William Sharp; Area of Western Davie, northern Iredell, southern Wilkes and Yadkin Counties: David Jones & Danl Wilcox 2 Thomas Holman (married into Isaac Wilcoxson family)1 Isaac Wilcox & Wm Wilcox 2 Matthew Sparks 1 (Uncle to Nancy) Wm. Sparks & son Mathew 2 (Father & bro to Nancy) Mathias Busey (Mathew?) 1 (married Edry, widow of Isaac) George Wilcox 1 Joseph Holman 1 Wm Whitacar & son John & Thomas Stogdell 3 (John m. Martha, sister of WM) Isaac Holman Also listed in this area are Morgan, Joseph, John, and William Bryan. I believe William married Nancy shortly after this tax list as their son, Daniel was b. c1775. They more than likely were married by 1774. I do not believe the William who died in Barren Co. and lived previously in Wilkes County is the son of John and Sarah, but the orphaned son of Isaac. I also beg to differ on Daniel Wilcoxson b. March 1755 being the son of John and Sarah due to the simple fact that Samuel was born one month before Daniel Feb 1755. William of John and Sarah would likely have been born 1757 and I believe the William who married Nancy Sparks was probably born c1752/53 and surely prior to 1755 when his brother Daniel was born. If the William who John sold his property to is not his son, who is he? and where did William their son go. There is a William Wilcoxson in Green Co where George Wilcoxon moved to as early as 1786. He received a land grant in 1786 for 150 acres and another 150 acres in 1787; 1787 187 acres all in Green Co., Northern District. These can be found in TN Land Grants Vol I and II by Barbara, Byron, and Samuel Sistler; Nashville; 1998 Also, NC Land Grants in TN 1778-1791 pg 34 1782 Wm Wilcoxson 150 acres on Waters of Dumpling Creek (prob. in Green Co., at that time) Please excuse any errors I might have made. I have done this in a hurry and am open to any corrections or questions. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
