A death certificate clearly shows an Emer Ferguson, born 23 Apr 1847 in Barren County, Kentucky, dying 11 Apr 1918 in Allen County Kentucky. She is said to have been the child of "Albert" (Elbert) Tapscott and Susan Gardner. Her grave marker in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Allen County, also clearly shows the name "Emer Ferguson" and the death date on the death certificate. The birth date on the marker is 23 Apr 1846 rather than 1847. Elbert Tapscott and Susan Gardner had no child named "Emer," nor any child, as far as we tell who married a Ferguson. The closest match in birth date is for Lucinda W. Tapscott, born around 1847-1848, who married "Fielding Emmett" (or "Emmitt" or "Emmet"). It is possible Lucinda Emmett married a Ferguson following the death of her husband, but where did the name "Emer" originate? Can anyone help unravel this mystery?
