CAVE CITY - [photo]. J. D. Steenbergen, Jr. 93 of Cave City, KY died Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his home. He was born at Allen's Crossroads in Barren County, son of the late Jimmy D. and Rhoda Allen Steenbergen. J. D. was a farmer and a member of Dover Baptist Church at Haywood and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he received the Purple Heart Medal. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sons Garry Steenbergen and wife Teresa and Larry Steenbergen and wife Sheila both of Cave City; 3 grandchildren J. D. Steenbergen III of Elizabethtown, Sara Layne Tucker (Todd) of Greensburg and Shannon Shirley (John) of Glasgow; 3 great-grandchildren Annmarie Shirley, Jacob Shirley and Zoe Matthews, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother John Allen Steenbergen and two sisters Arthena Weaver and Geraldine Berry. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Saturday, May 24th at the Dover Baptist Church at Haywood with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home on Friday beginning at 5pm and Saturday at the church from 11am until time for the service. Glasgow (KY) Daily Times, Thursday, 22 May 2014, p.
